I remember someone saying back in the day that Ricciardo always wanted to go to McLaren and it was only Sainz getting the seat in 2019 that drove him to Renault. When Sainz went to Ferrari in '21 then Ricciardo went across to his preferred choice all along.

Danny's luck with teams was actually terrible when you look at it. His first big break with the reigning 4 time constructors in 2014 coincided with aerodynamics playing second fiddle to the Merc power unit for the next 6 years. May have had an opportunity to go to Mercedes when Rosberg left, but Ricciardo was still happy being #1 at Red Bull (Max joins the next year) and Bottas gets the seat.

Might be biased as an Aussie but I reckon Ferrari should have chosen Ricciardo over Sainz in 2021 all other things being equal, maybe the Santander sponsorship influenced the decision. Even then he still would have been second fiddle to Leclerc in the most regimented 1-2 driver team in the championship so not exactly a better outcome for him I guess.

I'm a Hamilton man but I don't think what Lando is saying is unfair. Unless there was a reason the Mercs were running hotter (failed drink system etc)?

If you watch the clip you see his mate straight away points out "they might be unwell, you don't know their situation bro" and Lando's response is "Well they don't know mine". I think its the total lack of empathy and suddenly making it about himself when he is belittling them

You'd struggle to find an F1 driver that wouldn't make it about themselves tbh haha.

No doubt Lando is a knob, I just don't think he's any more/less than most of them.

I don't mind Lando at all.

I reckon largely it's because he's up against one of our own.

Vettel did some petulant things at Ferrari a lot of people would have been against if he was Webber's teammate. But then he became one of the most loveable drivers on the grid.

Now George Russell on the other hand, there's a giant british knob.

another pick up for mclaren. they appear to be bailing in droves from red bull

Will Courtenay, Head of Race Strategy at Red Bull, is set to leave the team.

He has worked at Red Bull since its first season in 2005 and before that at predecessor Jaguar.

He's set to move to McLaren and will take up the role of Sporting Director, however he will stay at the Milton Keynes based team until the expiry of his contract in mid-2026.

The Red Bull capitulation needs to be studied. Absolutely bizarre.
Tide turned when the allegations against Horner came out. Cracks started appearing and it has clearly upset people at Red Bull. But instead of cutting the snake off at the head with Horner, the body has been leaving on it's on. And could include Verstappen.

I wonder if part of the reason why Dans departure from RB/RBR hasnt been officially announced yet... is because HUGO literally just dropped a new ad campaign featuring him and Yuki yesterday..... gotta keep those sponsors happy I suppose

Daniel has said he's not interested in going back to Red Bull as the "third driver", so I wouldn't expect to see him at too many Grand Prix in the future.

Also means that Liam Lawson has a real shot at Perez's seat. If he can match and beat Yuki somewhat consistently, they might as well put him in that seat for 2025.

What happens if after all this rigmarole, Liam doesn’t impress as much as before, or/and Franco is better than him?
Franco won't wind up in the Red Bull stable. Red Bull would just go to Iwasa or Hadjar.

is there any possibility given no one has officially said anything regarding DR at RB, that Checo may retire after his home GP and DR gets the seat?

Wouldn't necessarily explain the emotions from DR, but maybe RBR don't even really know what's happening yet

I think it would be more likely for Max to walk away from F1 for a while than Checo to retire

It's pretty disappointing they haven't officially put him out of his misery.

Everyone seems to know, at least give him some dignity by confirming it.

It's like having him in the hangmans noose and then leaving him in for a week.

RBR have given Checo his 15th warning over his performance
