Sort of

A portion of people will hang on after DTS winds up, but a lot won't.

And what is wrong with that though?

Just like everything there always going to be a mix of fans who consume every single bit of content available right through to the casual observer. There’s literally nothing wrong with being either type of fan.

The major issue in the current climate is the post-Covid event ticket pricing which is an issue which goes beyond F1.

Some people are insecure and need people to know that they were into a particular thing before other people, as if to establish some weird street cred.

See it all the time with music ("I liked them before they were on the radio")

It’s extremely insecure behaviour.

Would you watch a 300km F1 race if it was F3/back end F2 pace, no safety cars and no mandatory pitstops? You don't get a say in how the races turn out.

Aside from myself, the only other one on here I definitely know who would is NSWCROW.

On another note. One of the best things about being an Australian who's a fan of The Corrs is that I can say that I, and "we" as Australians, liked them before anyone else. Even against ******* Irish fans. It's great ammunition to have in the artillery on Facebook.

Extremely childish to go along with insecure. Well done.
Your whole argument is ridiculous.

A real North Melbourne fan, or any club fan for that matter.... doesn't start going to the football because of some gimmick, they go because of a passion for the game and the club. Watch what happens to the vast majority of those new fans when DTS dies a natural death. The whole reason F1 does reality TV series is because there's a whole section of brain dead out there who actually like contrived shows like that.

The sport is no better (or worse) for having them there.

You are painting everyone with the same brush. DTS has 100% brought new fans into the sport who are now watching and attending races who previously weren’t.

The sport is definitely better for bringing new generations of fans into the sport even if it differs from how you personally consume the sport.

A real fan doesn't care or judge how or why other fans are interested in the game.

Let's put it in a way all you simpletons can understand.

If you watch F1 then you're an F1 fan, meaning that it doesn't matter what happens with DTS. The only real change would be that there is now one less avenue for F1 to gain new fans in the future. DTS, like T20 and cricket, is simply an easier way to get into the sport compared to coming in cold.

I hear the “real” fan argument and I want to punch someone. I get accused of not being a “real” fan of Collingwood because I question club decision not just follow like a cult no questions asked.

F1 fans are fans no matter how they got there and when they got there. I’ve been watching since the Alan Jones era the only thing different from me to a DTS fan is I have a bigger knowledge of the history of the sport which means bugger all in 2024 when I’m cheering on Oscar and abusing sky F1 and their biased coverage.

I unequivocally agree with your first sentence.

As a test purist, your second sentence less so haha. I'm thrilled for those that enjoy it, I just don't think the hit and giggle stuff provides the same enjoyment. Would be like only having practice and quali in an F1 weekend but then keeping the race out of the weekend ;)
Late to this, but…
Without the “hit and giggle” of 50 over and T20 cricket then the sport itself may not have survived.
It was certainly on the downward slope before they came along. And in the modern world then these forms of the sport are exactly what a 5 day/not always a result sport needed to stay relevant to the modern TV rating/internet eyes world.

How someone initially connects to a sport is irrelevant IMO. It’s still a time sink whether you’ve been following for 30 years or have only recently joined in. It’s that time commitment, willing to learn the rules and the lore, taking the time to watch the practices, the qualys, the races and such. It’s getting a deeper understanding that matters.

In my particular instance, I’ve always had a passing interest in Formula One since I was a kid, but never had the opportunity to watch it when I was younger due to a lack of coverage where I grew up (the most I got was the mentions in the sport segment of the news). DTS was definitely a bit of a gateway for me to get a better understanding of the sport and I’ve jumped in from there, but I don’t feel inferior to someone that’s watched since the 70s/80s/90s. If anything I’m jealous of the older fans for experiencing regulation eras and drivers that I didn’t get to.

Very similar; on and off since the Adelaide era but DTS Season 1 reignited the passion and I think the depression of Lockdown in 2021 and the total crap North was that year saw me watch every race through to that riveting final few races and finale

Why when there was a technical directive that appeared to reveal RB “pushing the law to the limit” there was wide outrage about it. Even extending to possible point penalties for team and drivers.
But now there’s a technical directive that implicates Merc, Ferrari and McLaren it’s all been very, very quiet?

No other way to describe people that view those who only recently found F1 via Netflix as "not real fans".

No different to cricket fans that turn their nose at T20 calling it "not real cricket".

It's not real cricket and I know there's plenty who don't cross over from T20 to test cricket.

F1 is F1, there's no watered down alternative.

Fascinating seeing the photography being taken of the destroyed car on the Tow Trailer.

The inclusion of Sprints could be argued as format tinkering, but yes agree

It staggers me that Perez still has a seat in F1. In basically the same organisation they sack Danny Ric and keep Checo. The only thing that this proves is that cash is king in this sport. Perez is in more or less the best car on the grid and constantly can’t get out of Q1 but hey let’s keep him and sack the Australian. Regardless of Danny Ric I can’t think for the life of me how Checo has lasted this long. That angry bumfuddled Helmet must have stock in Perez because there’s no other reason for him to be in F1.

Horners interviews these past few months appear equally frustrated with him from this distance

It’s also about having a Driver to represent that country

Take Checho out and who goes in from Mexico? That’s a big market to lose

Had DR stayed Australia would have had Oscar and Doohan out of 20 drivers

Bat.
Ball.
Wickets.
Pitch.
6 ball overs.
Fours.
Sixes.
Catches.
Run outs.
No balls.
Umpires
LBW.

Sounds like real cricket to me

or they use lines like "iM a pURisT"

The Sphere with the Drivers on it as they drive past
