It wasn't that long ago that lower league clubs were giving up home advantage in the cup, preferring to play away at a "big clubs" ground.

FA had to bring in a rule banning it.

I say keep it as it is, it's a brilliant, unique comp.

They were using it deliberately for revenue that's why. Sharing gate receipts at Liverpool is huge. Problem is with Klopp saying he won't be there... Will fans turn up?

Less gate takings but the ground should be full at least

he should shut the fu** up about crowds and the fans. 40k midweek cup attendance is fantastic. maybe he could ask his pals to lower the ticket prices if he wants more people in.

Book the game when it's not during the 2 week holidays and he'd be there. Also book the game with a proper break in time and we'd field a better side too.

In the last instance, we can't play our best XI 3 times (Prem, FA, Prem) in 6 days, it's irresponsible. The players are not robots.

As for someone up the page who said why don't we rest our team in the prem. We've still got that gold prem trophy in play. We 100% would have lost to Wolves a few days back if we rested players.

He needs a rest too. Look how burnt out he looked in the post match presser the other day.

Also with 0 senior players available due to the break, the U23s manager would know more about the youth players that we field.

You haven't included the several international games. With 70+ games for some players (and 2 week off-seasons). It's very crowded, they need to rest somewhere.
What International games? How is that a club's responsibility?

If these big clubs want to cry about fixture congestion, they could always back out of the Summer tournaments they play in that produce games mere days apart over the supposed summer break. But then that would mean less $$.

Our players have to go on international duty during parts of the season, so that adds several games onto their seasons. Which is why we have to rest players.

We can't completely eliminate pre-season. But I've proposed on another thread that 2 pre-season friendlies in July/August could have been replaced with the 2 December Club World Cup games. Thus making more of a break in December.

It must be tough having good players.

You don't need to eliminate pre-season, but traveling to New Zealand or Guatemala for games could probably be better managed couldn't it? Might even motivate teams to play local games and help raise the profile of local clubs?

I mean, if the money is more important, by all means, but you can't have your cake and eat it too.

For me I'd prioritize the players getting a good pre-season in over where the games are. Few games against lower league clubs, maybe a game against a big club, 2 club world cup games, community shield, then supercup, then the prem starts.

Exactly, but at the moment the big clubs just chase the almighty dollar, then cry that their players are tired.

And that's great, you can prioritise whatever you want as a club. That doesn't mean the big clubs can demand that competitions change their structure to better suit their priorities.
Something has to give. It's impossible for us to respect the league and fa cups and field good sides when they book games 20 hours before another game, or in between 2 prem games where there is 3 games in a 6 day period, or during a pre-arranged PL break where every senior player has checked out.

Klopp doesn’t need a rest lol, come on Ross. The reason he won’t be there is because it will be our actual under 23 team so it makes sense that their usual manager is in the dugout.

Not saying I agree with it but it makes sense.

I think some underestimate the amount of stress managers go through. Just like at Ole at Man United, aged about 10 years in 1.

Mou since returning to UK seems to have aged 15-20 years in the space of 7.

I'm sure apollo_creed has enough images of Mou on his HDD to do many of those 10 year challenges.

What should "give" is the commercialisation of every aspect of your season, including your pre season.

No manager can avoid the harsh commercial reality of O/S pre season tours. Not even Klopp.
He's on record as saying he'd much prefer a long(two week or more ) camp in Europe.
