facebook has gone downhill since people aged 30+ with to much time have turned it into a day by day commentary on life.

Its peak was when it was used bypeople as banter about the weekend, sport and parties and so on.

Facebook has gone downhill since people with interests that are different to mine starting using it.

Its peak was when it was used almost exclusively bypeople who had similar insterests to me and who were the same age as me and so on.

haha ok

that's just how I read it..

Isn't banter about the weekend / parties pretty much another form of day by day commentary?

i think the baby pictures and photos of people having a sandwich at a cafe happen more, i have friends of all ages and its the older people that use it more ad that i have had to block.

I have noticed banter has stopped mostly as people are to sensitive when discussions happen.

I've only recently started using facebook...

Is it common practice that as soon as I meet a chick I immediately stalk her facebook to see what she's really like?

That's what it's for.

Is this idea that somebody's Facebook shows 'how they really are' in anyway accurate?

I don't think it is at all.

Yes.
And every time she posts a quote about romance or love you have to analyze it for 4 hours and decide whether it's about you or not.

Facebook sent me a notification last night 'Do you know person xyz?'.

What's that aboot? There are plenty of people I might know which pop up on the 'people you may know' tab. Why notify me about someone in another state with zero mutual friends?

Facebook just randomly decides to connect people sometimes. It's a real sloppy mess of a website.

It does some odd things.

Since it started notifying me of birthdays I reckon I have got about a dozen or so notifications. Sometimes close friends who I am always at common events with, tagged in photos with etc., other times people I never see or contact. Not sure if there's any science to it.

It once simply notified me that two friends were 'nearby'. Hasn't done it since. Weird. 'Nearby' FWIW is somewhere in the CBD where I and a good portion of my friends are most days, so not like it was informing me someone I know was also on holiday in some far flung place.

Yeah I don't understand the birthday thing either. It seems to randomly decide who to send notifications for and who not to.
