I get the appeal for people staying in touch with friends but I'm not that social.

Living OS, I find facebook pretty handy for keeping tabs on family and friends. There are probably a few people on there that really don't need to be, but I really don't care that much and very few of them are annoying, so I guess it's not really anything that bothers me that much to go on a mass deletion or whatever.

I usually only spend half an hour to an hour on it per day anyway unless I bump into a friend on chat.

I have managed to ween myself off it for the most part, I rarely spend more than 10 minutes a day on it now and that's only for correspondence with immediate friends. I can't see how people spend 5+ hours a day on it?

I've gone with making it so I receive all notifications as emails, that way the 'oh, but it's handy for events, etc.' argument is taken out of it. And from there, don't access the site at all.
