Facebook is an essential part of my life.

Videos in my newsfeed now auto-play? **** off facebook
really? This is a major annoyance on most news websites. Its so unuser friendly. If I want to watch it. I'll click play, no need to do it for me.

Facebook is a lot like religion. It sucks you in, You're convinced its the foundation of everything, then you get out, and realize how stupid it looks from the outside, and how stupid you feel for being sucked in.

Two of the best decisions I've made in my life.

Yep, just noticed it on the last couple of days.

Stupidest thing is that they play silently, so its basically pointless, other than a way to waste your mobile data and I guess increase the view numbers for advertisers?

I've managed to turn it off when not on wifi but you can't turn it off fully. Might get rid of the app and just go back to using the mobile site.

So it's not really like religion.

If Facebook allowed users to disable the newsfeed, I reckon they'd get back a lot of ppl who've left it. Without newsfeed it's an excellent tool.

When FB first arrived, there was no news feed. It was just profile pages, pics, and the ability to communicate 1 to 1. Which is what most people want.

My point is your analogy is incorrect, Facebook is not like religion.
from my experiences ive found the two to be related.
they both made me believe how amazing it is. then after leaving thought it was lame and felt dumb for getting sucked in

I'm in the process of deleting my Facebook. :p Took about 3-4 hours over 2-3 days just deleting everything off my timeline. Just no real need for it over the last year or so. Kind of felt like i'd been trying to find an excuse to keep it. And to be honest, i'm kind of fed up that they keep changing certain parts of it all the time and it was becoming a frustrating experience. Just last week they changed private messaging on me. When i click on the message button at the top, a drop down box opens showing the last 5 conversations, well when i go to click on an unread one, it just opens up a chat box on the bottom-right of the screen instead of taking me directly to my inbox. All in all, no longer need it and each change they make is worse than the last. Will be messaging people with my phone number and e-mail address and we can keep in touch via Whatsapp etc...

Would be hilarious if Facebook decided to restore their servers back to last Wednesday.:D

Just two more days and I'm deleted forever, hurry up already.

How does this work?

I'm under the impression that it can't be deleted forever, based on the experience of my ex who thought she deleted her facebook about 3 years ago - Recently got a new job that required her to use social media so she re-signed up and all of her old stuff was still waiting there....

14 days, it gets deleted. But I have been told to delete all your passwords, because it can be bought back to you.

I deleted it once already, and just signed up again with a new email address.

I also meticulously went through and deleted all the stuff I wanted deleted, from group and fan pages, personal information, photos etc. I also could have deleted all of my contacts if I wanted.

I might also add, there is the facebook way of deletion (The way they advertise) Then there's the way tehy don't advertise. This girl may have done the former, in which yes you can get it back. I'd rather play it safe, delete my passwords, and my email address in which I only set up for facebook.

Disabling the newsfeed is easy - just don't look at it.

Never understood their kind of logic, seems so simple doesn't it? Used to run into it all the time when i worked in a phone shop.
"This phone is perfect, but it has GPS. I don't want GPS."
"So... just don't use it?"
"No. I don't want one with GPS, I've never used it before and don't need it."
"Yeah, Ok. So... just don't use it?"

Wonder how many people read an entire newspaper because it's there. That reminds me, I have to go and write to the Advertiser and ask them to cut out the business, cars and finance sections. I don't use them and if they're there it's too hard to just ignore them.
