Without turning this into something for the religion board, it's one thing to hashtag #prayforparis, it's another thing to actually pray for Paris.

Is it wrong to be critical of the things we do to feel like we're helping on facebook?

This whole social media thing celebrates our views, yes? So tell me what YOU think, don't just give me some pity party lame hashtag. Maybe I just expect too much of those around me?

Wtf is a temporary profile picture?

One that reverts to the previous profile pic after a certain period of time. First time I've seen Facebook do this, and I think it's a good idea. Quick way to do a temporary update for a current event (whether it's for a tragedy, or maybe down the track for things like Grand Finals etc)

By that theory those that don't change it at all don't care at all.
Just seems like everyone trying to one up themselves on everyone else. They want to be seen to seem like they care when they'll forget about it in a week

I would understand your thinking with constant pointless status updates and in your face posts about the issue. If its just a simple quiet show of support, I don't see an issue.

I find the people that are so anti it, are worse than those actually doing it all in terms of annoyance

Agree with this. The people who can't wait to shit on any one of these new trends are more insufferable than the people actually contributing to the trends. I'll take some kind yet empty gestures over people who can't wait to shit over said gestures. Everyone knows a French flag overlay doesn't do anything, but people feel powerless and perhaps want to express their support any way they can.

Tend to agree, I admit with heart to hand I have bagged out a lot of facebook trends on here and I have bagged out the French flag thing today too. I bagged out the use of the Sydney Opera House on the French flag as a profile pic on a thread on the Freo board.

But in general for the whingeing about hashtags and profile pics and like minded stuff, I do admit for many cases there does come a point where the anti brigade becomes too much, to the point where they are just insufferable and they need to start finding a new hobby, preferably away from the computer and out in the sun or the moon.

Its like those twats on this site who like to bag people who donate money to charity for being all about self promotion. It tends to come from self-important left wingers who are the first to get on their moral high ground in support to socialism, poor people, aborigines and the ill and attack governments for not doing enough to solve these problems.

I find the profile flag thing silly. Does nothing.
precisely! Just a way of people feeling like they are contributing to the massive cause, but in effect it does zero. Much alike the #putyourbatsout, what does it even do.

What it does is provide people an outlet for their feelings during a confronting world event. Do you think people are changing their profile pictures because they think it will destroy ISIS?
