Here is the Crows version of the thread if you feel like wandering over, I've also edited AFC's post in the OP of our thread

Loving this co-operative spirit between boards. Great to read your perspective on the game. Looking forward to a good game. Think it will be telling, whatever the result. Both teams will be considerably clearer as to where they are at in 2012 by the finish.

Great job Sentinel and AFC. I think if we can stop the easy supply into the Adelaide forward line we can be more than competitive. Jacobs is a decent ruckman but not the calibre of Cox and NicNat (who is), so if we can stop the easy centre clearances it will help in containing Walker and Tippett a little bit. As someone has already posted the other backman have to be there to help as third man up.
Really hoping Cordy plays, his confidence seems to be up after good performances against the Cats in the NAB cup and last week for Willy against a quality opponent.

What makes you say that? I thought Jacobs was easily one of our better players. Finished the game with 28HOs and 18 disposals. Tough to get struggling out of that.

I reckon you guys probably have the advantage in the midfield, but that won't be because our rucking lets us down.
I was at the Suns Crows game, and watched him pretty closely knowing we were playing you the following week.

Forget about those stats, Zac Smith also had a shocker, and the backup ruckman for the Suns was very green.

Jacobs seemed to be very slow, and a couple of times he was spoiled by much smaller opposition. The bloke can barely get off the ground.

He might win the tap, but after that he's not that great.

Which is why I said it will be a much more even contest between him and Minson.

Must have been some other footballer and not Jacobs you were watching. This bloke took on Nic Nat and Cox in the NAB GF and did better than evens. Add to his stats last week that he had 5 contested possessions. He has the ability to work as an extra mid for us as well as being able to go forward, take a clunker and kick a goal.
Minson is a reasonable ruckman, but I think Jacobs will best him, Proof of pudding is in the eating, so one of us can get back to the other on Sunday. :D

I'll be at AAMI and looking forward to a good game. My late father was a Footscray boy and I've always had a soft spot for the Doggies.

Granted I didn't see the NAB Cup grand final, so if he did hold his own against the best ruck duo in the comp, that is quite a feat.

Maybe he was in cruise mode on the wkend, but I wasn't overly impressed against a very raw Gold Coast ruck lineup.

Now I've said this Minnow will probably get towelled up on Sat :D

Now you have Jynx'ed him! Damn it lol

Hopefully is a good battle

Hey lads great write ups.

If you look at the betting I think they've got the market really wrong, we should be favourites but $1.20 is way too short.

I think a bet on you guys to cover the line is fantastic odds.

To the actual game. I think both defences will struggle so I am expecting a high scoring encounter.

Thompson vs Boyd will be good, seems like we'll continue to run him head to head with one of the opposition's top mids.

For mine, Griffen's presence is vital, he could rip us apart but I can't see you guys winning if he doesn't play. Although if Cooney can hit decent heights again that could cover (such a shame about his knee).

I liked what I saw of Clay Smith, how is he recovering?

Market looks about right. We got towled up by West Coast at Etihad and you've beaten West Coast in Adelaide, plus you've got form on your side.

I thought we were terrific for 2 and a bit quarters. We didn't finnish our work and we turned it over too much. We also had trouble getting the ball out of the center ball ups.

West Coast got 6 goals from free kicks according to a stat I saw in the sun. We need to be better at that part, we gave away too many silly ones and we were a bit unlucky also.

Cordy should come in this week for mine. I'd swap him for Grant. Griff comes in for Howard. I did like Wallis especially early but I would like another outside guy, but I'm not sure they are ready from what I saw at Willi last week. But maybe Tutt, Sherman or DJ?

It's a tough one for us of course beinging over there too. But....I would not be suprised if we upset here, but I think Crows fraction too good at home.

I think the game will be very evenly matched, it all just depends if Markovic, Lake and Hargrave will be able to stop Tippet and Walker. If we stop those two we will go a long way to winning the match as they are a massive part of their forward line as they collectively kicked 9 of their 19 last week.
Battle of the clearances and contested possessions will be great too.

Should be a really close match, hoping for the win but I think the crows will be too good at home with the form they are carrying.

Thanks to Sentinel and AFC for their terrific contributions.

Unfortunately I think that the bookies have it about right - Adelaide deserve to start short-priced favourites at home. The crows are a couple of years ahead of us in a rebuild that both clubs have needed to undertake before they have realistic shots at the flag.

I think the odds are a little bit out but im not complaining.. Ill take dogs at 30+ line :) Think Adelaide will win but under 30 points imo

Not confident for this one, I think Adelaide are a much improved side and they're due for a win over us.

I will be AAMI for the game though, hoping it's worth the trip. Probably not though.

Likewise. Will be at AAMI!
I'll be there too. I presume you guys will be near the cheer squad?

Early forecast of some rain on Saturday night could be a bonus for us. Is it just me or do night games at AAMI always seem to be played in the wet?
The weather forecast says mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain. Hopefully it stays dry, there are hardly any seats under cover. Would tolerate getting soaked if we win (r19 2010 :thumbsu:), but Adelaide have been in ripping form so far and I can't see us getting up :(

Glad to see DJ back, I'm a fan of his. Though surely Mitch didn't do that much wrong against West Coast?

EDIT - http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/132408/default.aspx

The bit I found interesting was:

"'Macca' [coach Brendan McCartney] said at the start of the game he wasn't concerned whether we won or lost," Wood said.

"Because we've had the new coach and the last six months has been tireless work with our new game plan and the new way we want to play, that was the main focus.

Be good to see the natural progression over the year as the boys learn the way McCartney wants them to play.

God but I hope it is a ploy to make the opposition think we are complete idiots. The only place that would make less sense to play Crossy from would be full back!!! The 'wing'????
My heaven the only time he should start anywhere other than in the middle, is when he is resting. Why on earth are we ignoring his strengths, and playing to his weaknesses? Are we trying to lose games deliberately, and prematurely end a warrior's career?
I don't know who came up with this 'move' [IE starting him outside the square so he has to run to the contest rather than being there when the action actually is taking place], but I hope it was one of the match committee that was moved on at last season's end.
May common sense return to our planning so we can at least win some games this season, that is unless Tanking has already started in the first two rounds, and THAT is our 2012 Game Plan.

As would everyone. However, it is a development year for us this year.

Yeah I know :p

Still a bit curious that the coach would say that.....

I don't think we'll win but really Adelaide were very ordinary last season, and they'll need to do more than win the NAB Cup and beat the Gold Coast to show that they're gonna be any different this season. It's definitely a winnable game

Yes, it was. Maybe Woody let something slip that should have stayed in the bunker.

I'm just waiting for someone to take it out of context and claim we are tanking in Round 1 just because we've got a GWS compensation pick. I also wonder what the bookies/AD think of a coach allegedly saying that?

It clearly needs to be understood in the context of a pre-game briefing which may have gone along the lines of:
"we are on a journey to playing a different type of footy. What's important is that we persist with it even if it causes us some pain in the short term. Even if we are getting beaten today we can't just revert to our old ways as a knee-jerk reaction to ... (blah, blah, blah...). We need to keep the end objective in mind and we will be a team to be feared in 1-2 years time..." (blah, blah, etc, etc).
I have no problem with that philosophy. It's about time someone had the guts to take a long term view, even if it costs us over the shorter journey. I think it will bring us results soon enough.

Not terrible changes, but I would've liked to see Cordy come in to add some height, I guess DJ will add some pace, and Wallis did have to be dropped.

I thought Cordy was a shoe in after great pre season and form last week at Willi. Very strange, I hope this coach don't play favourites like Eade.
