Media Falcon Files: Sweet by AFL Team (s40 edition)

Another day of Heritage Round, another piece of throwback media. This time, we go back to the Falcon Files' first piece of media- Sweet by AFL Team.

Talking about the AFL is frowned upon by some in the Sweet FA, to those people, get ready to frown.

One of the great aspects of the Sweet FA is that people of various football persuasions can put aside tribal AFL differences and participate alongside one another for the goal of qooty success. Collingwood and Carlton fans, Fremantle and Carlton fans, Geelong and Hawthorn fans, heck even Adelaide and Port Adelaide fans in near-perfect Sweet harmony.

So, how do the thirteen squads stack up in terms of AFL allegiances? Is the league overrepresented by Tigers and Dockers fans? How have things changed since season 33? Let's numberwang and find out.

HOW THE LEAGUE LOOKS OVERALL:
The league continues to have no worries in recruiting Richmond and Freo supporters with both increasing since season 33 in both number and by proportion of the league. Brisbane are now much more strongly represented, whereas clubs like Melbourne and Essendon are less common than seven seasons ago.

First up we have the total supported AFL clubs on each list in the Sweet FA. Four teams head this list with each of the Bears, Bombers, Warriors and Wonders having a diverse total of 14 clubs supported in their ranks. At the other end of the spectrum are the Dragons (who, to be fair, do have the second smallest list in the league) with just 8 clubs supported in their ranks.


Now, onto the club by club demographics. The Roys have the most supporters of one club with 11 Brisbane Lions supporters (perhaps many who migrated over after a different Lions team was executed by the AFL). To the shock of precisely no one, the Warriors (Fremantle) and Old Boys (Richmond) each have a near nausea-inducing ten such supporters on their list.

The Wonders have a very balanced bunch of footy supporters in their ranks with no more than four of any supporter base (Adelaide), with the Gumbies coming second on this measure with no more than five of one supporter base (Richmond).
