It's Heritage Round (yes, really!), so let's combine two of the great loves of the Sweet FA- music and looking back at the past. Let's check out what song was top of the ARIA charts when this weeks combatants first met.

Shoutout to Mr Magnificent for making this task so much easier due to Sweet FA+

First Met: 8 December 2007
Number one in the charts: Apologise (Timberland feat One Republic)

Good throwback this! Timberland, much like the Wonders winning premierships, was quite the thing for a while there. Guess one should, ahem, apologise for putting this earworm back into your heads.

First Met: 20 July 2014
Number one in the charts: We are done (The Madden Brothers)

Remember when Joel and Benji were hotter than the Sun in Australia/New Zealand a decade ago? This song that sounds like it's from a shitty beer ad, and considering the Swampies and Wahs love of the amber ale, maybe it's thoroughly appropriate for this matchup after all.

First Met: 11 July 2006
Number one in the charts: Hips don't lie (Shakira feat Wyclef Jean)

BANGER ALERT! Phenomenal song in 2006, still dardy today almost 20 years on. A tune that still makes a man wanna speak Spanish.

First Met: 26 March 2001
Number one in the charts: It wasn't me (Shaggy)

We're going back a long way for this tune, but much like the Foundation Cup, it's a memorable one. Ruour has it that this is the song Headless hums when they post this jpeg:

First Met: 28 July 2005
Number one in the charts: Axel F(Crazy Frog)

I can't even, get stuffed 2005.

First Met: 14 August 2022
Number one in the charts: Running up that hill (A deal with God) (Kate Bush)

With more cups and spoons in their first two years than the average Uni sharehouse, the Old Boys truly did make a deal with God. The again, Stranger Things have happened.

First Met: 28 August 2004
Number one in the charts: When the war is over (Cosima)

A song from a different time where the world was grappling the fallout of a large military country unwisely entering into a war with a nation in the Middle East, whose name begins with a vowel. Thank heck times have changed!

So, what are your faves from this eclectic playlist?

Great thread, Falco.

Too bad I had to delete my "WHAT ABOUT OOB?!?!!!!1111" tirade.

Speaking of retro, I have grown VERY fond of the Brown Acid compilations, and in fact now have them all:

The label actually secures legit permission from all the artists, and ensures they get their fair share of the $$$, which is maximized by the Bandcamp sales channel vs. all other distributions.
