Fall and Fall of Big Bash

Wouldn’t put it past them. Especially in the ones where we had chances to sell out Optus in two games.

Early seasons would’ve been alright as it was just getting on its feet but I feel the more commercialised it’s become the less the suits care about the integrity of results and care more about narratives and hype much like the AFL operate.
I’m sure you had these exact thoughts when the scorchers where dominating and didn’t just all of a sudden come upon this realisation this season.

You said the broadcasters pre-determine the results. Fixturing and umpiring is not enough (even if so, what games have been decided by umpiring this season?)

Are players being told to bowl wides, throw matches in your wild fantasy ?
Broadcasters are the blokes paying for the product so they have full control.

Can also be a number of things. Player availability, dodgy umpiring masked as incompetence and fixtures that are now unbalanced with an uneven amount of games

I’m sure you’re a cricket fanatic and love to get behind your team and you’re just a little frustrated at how the season has panned out.

I’ve had similar thoughts with most sporting organisations over the past 5 or so years. Far too many coincidences nowadays which does water down the genuine amazing sporting moments.

So you think umpires are instructed to make bad calls

By who ?

The Scorchers miss the finals for one season and their fans bring this out. Amazing.
It's honestly just one poster. Nobody else I've spoken with either at games, online, or elsewhere has said anything other than "they blew it with a couple of bad games."

In my case I say scorchers fans or some fans because I don’t want to single out 1 poster and pile on them.

I should just stop replying everybody is entitled to their opinion.

If the opinion is "my team lost because umpires, administrators, broadcasters and selectors were involved in a massive conspiracy", then no, I don't think people are actually entitled to hold that opinion.

Just one more on the Stars v Renegades matter, I also think so many players having played for both undermines the “rivalry” and identity of the teams.

Hodge, Siddle, Handscomb, White, Zampa, Harvey. All good players but none are iconic to either team.

I cannot recall as much player movement between the Sixers and Thunder. Both of those teams have a clearer identity too.

Victorians are pretty parochial about cricket which for the most part is a good thing but I think they've struggled with the split of the state team a bit more the New South Wales public has. Those record crowds at the MCG a few years back now with hindsight look like crowds turning out for a all Victorian game of cricket rather than the start of some sort of arch rivalry between the two teams.

Lets face it the main reason why the Scorchers have had so much success is they generally have their entire line up of State players that have been with them for the majority. Yep they have had a couple at the end of their careers like Hogg and Marsh play elsewhere and the majority of the time they have a full strength line up because none of them have been good enough to be selected to play Test cricket.

The competition has dropped so much , it was great at the initial stages because you had big name international players available for the entire comp and then the ones that had short stays you had blokes like Stokes and Faf who ended up captaining their countries play. Some of the names over time that played you had Gayle, Pollard, Murali, Bravo, Butler, Hales, Samuels, Badree, KP, Flintoff, Broad, Archer, McCullum, Malinga, Rasheed Kahn, Vettori ETC. Those big names and the not so big ones like a Badree have done well at international level have been replaced by County Cricketers like Walter, Jennings etc

Teams can be strong and then all of a sudden they lose the international players and then get filled up by the Wakims, Hobson, Larkin types. If you want the comp to be top tier they need to be able to play 4 internationals per game but also fix the schedule to allow for players to be available the entire competition.

Did you read any of the post? It’s not the most profitable but it’s improving their smallest market significantly. I’ll put my house on a Sixers win on Tuesday followed by the Canes being bundled out so the final is either the Stars or Sydney
Can you describe this said house before I take this bet?

I don’t want to win a shit box.

Next you will be telling us the fact the WCE have been shit for the last 4 years is all the AFL’s fault.

Isn't it?
Only joking.

I'd be really surprised if Hobart don't at least host the final TBH.
From there, it's anyone's guess.

There's actually been heaps of players play for both Sixers and Thunder. Probably less so now but early on they were changing between the two a lot. It was almost like Thunder were the 2nd XI and you'd sign for Sixers once you were good enough.

Abbott, Cummins, Warner, Maddinson, Rohrer, Watson, Bollinger, Hughes, Patterson, Lalor.

Who are International crickets big drawcards right now ?
They don't really exist anymore. Not at the level of Gayle, ABD, KP etc..

but also fix the schedule to allow for players to be available the entire competition.
How though?
BBL can't go any longer than its current end date, as the SA20 and PSL will eat up the available talent.

It probably can't start any earlier anyway, as November is not school holidays, and peak test schedule around the world. So the talent pool is not there.

Happy to be put right. Some decent names there.

I stand by the identity point though.

best hope would be for ICC to carve out specific time periods for T20 comps to avoid overlap. not that it would necessarily stop unofficial comps starting up.

Cricinfo's team of the season:
D. Warner (Thunder)
M. Owen (Hurricanes)
C. Connolly (Scorchers)
G. Maxwell (Stars)
T. David (Hurricanes)
M. Wade (Hurricanes)
J. Overton (Strikers)
B. Dwarshuis (Sixers)
M. Steketee (Stars)
J. Behrendorff (Scorchers)
L. Pope (Strikers)

Agree. The ICC have admitted in the past that the scheduling of comps has become a bit of a free for all. As much as people tend to not like over governance, I think they need to step in and sort out the calendar and clearly designate windows for domestic comps and international tours.
