As a fan id love to sit on the couch on Christmas night and watch a game of cricket.

As a person who understands athletes are humans and have families and lives noway should they have to play a game of cricket on Christmas Day.

Yes they get paid well but put yourself in there position. How would you feel having to play a game of competitive sport Christmas night.

Even now they likely have to travel on Christmas Day to play the Boxing Day games.

On the flipside, shuffle the teams around and it’s one game every four years over a career that goes for 10-15 years if you’re lucky. Pay them a Xmas bonus if it helps.

In an ideal world it would be a Sydney Derby. There's a high proportion of Asian Australian living there who love T20 cricket and whose faith means Christmas might not be such a big deal. Bit unfair on the players though.

last time they floated it, the players association turned it down.

I note once again the Perth team had a home game on Boxing Day, which means unless CA has changed the rules post-covid, the visiting team would have had to fly to Perth on xmas day. Why is travelling to Perth on xmas day better than just playing a game on xmas day? it's never made sense any to me. xmas day is not BBL free as it stands, teams still practice and teams still travel, including doing the longest trip of the season.

if they're going to do a Sydney derby before Xmas, they may as well just do it on xmas day. and the players association should bargain that with the scrapping of the annual Perth home game on Boxing day so that players aren't spending xmas day on a plane trip

Should be simple. No game on Christmas day (players are human and should be allowed to spend Xmas with their families) and the Sydney derby on Boxing Day.

Melbourne derby at Marvel Xmas Eve would be good I reckon, especially this year with all the poms in town.

It always sounds like a good idea in theory until we get to the stage of convincing players, coaches, coaching staff, match officials, ground staff, stadium staff, as well as on and off air broadcaat talent to give up a portion of Christmas Day to get a game of cricket on.

I read a few complaints this year regarding there being no BBL match on Xmas Eve - wonder if that could be an easier sell to start with, especially one of the derbys

The only question would be if Marvel would be ready to host a match at that time - the RMIT graduation is the week before Xmas, so how much time do they need after that ensure the stadium surface and pitch is at its best

Somehow it was ok for the Aus women's team to spend the entire Christmas/New Year period touring India, in those ancient times of 2023/24.

But having men's domestic cricketers from NSW playing xmas night in say Adelaide, oh heavens, we couldn't possibly burden them with such inhumane demands.

it's a very weird thing indeed.

The BBL schedule needs to be tight and compact. if you're going to have a day without a BBL game in December/January, you want to have a good reason, and the Christmas reason doesn't really stack up once you actually think about it.

For $20 000, I'd gladly sacrifice Christmas and celebrate with my family on Boxing Day instead.

But really I think the BBL shouldn't be on in this period at all. The spectacle gets outshone by the Boxing Day test anyway. Just start it on the 31st, have it run until January 31st, all over in a month. And being clear of the tests means more Australian international cricketers will be available.

not necessarily. CA would probably manage their availability.

As per this afternoon - Beau Webster and Josh Inglis released from Ashes squad immediately after defeat to England, and available for the Canes & Scorchers next BBL games

Would have been nice to also release Doggett so he could play in the Monday night clash between the Canes & Gades

T20 is a shit format lets face it
Genuine garbage.
Guaranteed conversation ending stuff.

Someone tries to talk cricket with you and then proceeds to talk T20 you shouldn't be considered rude to walk away from them abruptly. Lowbrow cricket fandom.
