This is correct, but BBL still isn't interrupting anything.
Sorry how many Shield games have been played in January?

Shield cricket and the domestic one dayers are stopped so that the BBL can run. This is absolutely an interruption. Not all Shield players are also BBL players.

The South Australian teams for the last few years have had Henry Hunt piling on runs in Shield cricket before Christmas only to return after the BBL struggling to get bat on ball. Its almost like there was a massive interruption to his playing cricket at a higher level over summer.

You edited my post to suit yourself.
The formats are coexisting,as they should, and need to.
Players need to also be developed in all formats.

If the billionaires or millionaires of IPL cricket come and pump money into the BBL/CA the flow on could be to grassroots cricket
emphasis on the "could", because you know the CEOs and players take the first slices of the cake and eventually grassroots gets the crumbs

How many shield games do you expect to fit in in 3 months?
You could do 7 rounds plus Final. Each state plays each other 4 times over 3 seasons.

Or… bring in ACT and England Lions. An Australian based academy for the poms to help them be competitive in Ashes series in Australia. We send a bucket load of players off to County cricket. This is a return favour.

Lol no. This is incredibly stupid. How they do the Shield is fine, if a bit interrupted.

pretty good BBL record

He's got a pretty good BBL record for the Sixers.

Been pretty poor at NSW but what he's turned the Sixers into is commendable. Age probably prevents him from getting another gig but wouldn't be all that surprised if he did.

So have CAs money problems in recent summers despite large attendances come at the same time their potential sponsorship pool was dramatically shrunk due to the captains personal political beliefs?

Must be a coincidence.
Aren't his beliefs milquetoast centre-left? Not my own beliefs, but nothing that would scare sponsors off?

It would be the shield form that got him

4th, 6th, 3rd, 4th is woeful as a NSW coach

Konstas is the only NSW player to make a test debut for Australia in 7 years. The only other one in the last 10 years is Kurtis Patterson

Their system well overdue for an overhaul

I'm an unabashed supporter of the Sheffield Shield, have been since the mid 60s and always will be. It is my favourite cricket to watch. Unlike BBL, it is a true contest between bat and ball.

The argument against SS always bemuses me, when people go on about attendances, etc. How are people meant to attend SS when they don't even know it's on? It's like that relative who's kept in the basement, and nobody talks about. It is not promoted.

BBL, you look at the crowds, and it's littered with schoolkids who obviously have been gifted free tickets, so they drag the parents along who have to pay. Added to this it is pushed down the throats of the TV public who are blissfully unaware there is any such thing as Sheffield Shield cricket.

It's like how TV networks push the shows they want people to watch, same advert every break for 2 months before it even comes to air. They don't push other programs. You wouldn't know they existed if it wasn't promoted. If I see the promotion for "I'm a Celebrity" one more time I think I'm going to scream. That type of show caters for the lowest of intellect, very similar to Big Bash.

If CA spent some time promoting SS, allocated some free to airtime, and made Test players more available, interest would grow. If you told people SA are playing NSW at Adelaide Oval, and Head and Carey will be up against Cummins, Hazlewood, Lyon, etc, people would come.

As a kid, I remember the South African tours on 1966-67 and 1969-70 when the only first-class cricket being played in Australia was Sheffield Shield. People loved it. I've often thought by trying to push SS into the background, it's akin to killing the goose that laid the golden egg.
There's one really big point you're missing.

It's convenient to go to the BBL. Just rock up after work. To watch the Sheffield Shield you'll have to make some serious arrangements, if you can even go at all - no matter how good the competition is (and I'm definitely not arguing with you there).

his performance as nsw coach is basically indistinguishable from the previous 10 seasons and all the other coaches (probably closer to 14 seasons, since anthony stuart anyway)

the coach can change, there's problems that exist and persist regardless of who is has the coach tag

An English team in the shield? Hell nah. Don’t give them any advantages.

Yet a lot of people still trot out the mindless - cant get a baggy green unless you are from NSW.

And others still think its funny, and sadly others think it is true.

I guess facts have never gotten in the way of a good story.

none of the test stars competing in the BBL next summer it seems.

there's about a 10 day break between the final test v new zealand in sydney and the 1st test over in india.
