I feel if they wanted to increase the number of games again, they should have double headers on every Saturday and Sunday. It would take some strategic tinkering with the schedule to ensure teams aren't playing on consecutive days though.

Would it be the end of the world if some teams had to back up? It’s four overs of bowling, 20 overs in the field, most are used to 90. I think they should squeeze the whole Big Bash into December 26 to the end of the school holidays, even a slightly expanded edition, interspersed with international short form games, so some backing up would be required to make it work.

In light of the CA's efforts to expand the game in the ex pat Asian community I would see a Christmas Day game as an opportunity for growth there.

I worked with some Indian guys and I asked them what they were doing for Christmas and they said because public transport on xmas day was free they were going to go to Ballarat for the day to have a look around. I don't think it would be tough to attract people to the cricket if the price of the tickets were reasonable.

I remember toiling a plan over the T20 WC. Player afternoon games on Saturday and Sunday, and the occasional "late" game out of Perth Stadium on a Friday or Saturday night.

If you can play a Shield game over four days, you can play two T20 games in a row.

they were actually talking about decreasing the number of games in the WBBL to add some red ball games (IF their wish/plan to play more Tests comes to fruition)

Disagree, they reduced the number of games at the behest of 7 because ratings were falling but the last couple of years has seen a rebound. If they pack the schedule in tightly and maintain the ratings, they’ll look to increase the number of games again.

That's not what happened. It was CA who approached the broadcasters about shortening the season.

That's incorrect I think.
Teams had trouble getting the "Marque" players because of the length of the tournament.

I cant see it being extended either.
Playing each other once is probably perfect but 10 games is pretty good.

We will likely never know all of what happened behind the scenes but 7 definitely pushed for many of the changes that came into effect this season, including less games.

The number of games was put forth by CA. This has been widely and consistently reported as the case (by reporters who've long had access to private BBL-related emails between CA and 7). Look it up.

As for these supposed "many" other changes this season. I don't know what you're talking about. The Marvel roof rule is probably the next biggest change, which is clearly not significant and obviously dictated by CA anyway.

Sometimes I think organisations are scared of trying something for fear they’ll have to “abandon it” and be seen as failures. There’s nothing wrong with giving something a go and seeing how it turns out.

I assume they all stay in Sydney for the duration unless they have a long break. Besides, all the Melbourne players had to be away on Xmas Day this year to play Boxing Day, so no reason a Sydney Smash can’t play on Xmas Day as they’ll get more time at home than those playing Boxing Day!

The big bash is terrible for developing cricketers though. Rather than developing their game then refining it in t20 we have players trying to develop in t20.

Players aren’t getting the time in the middle and it’s reinforcing a lot of bad habits.

T20 might be the way is going entertainment wise but it’s going to drastically decrease the quality of cricketers we have coming through.

It stops them playing grade cricket, where they tend to make pretty big scores and spend lots of time in the middle.
