Falloon - what's he doing? Packing his bags!

How can we be skinny and weak and also aerobically unfit? WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SESSIONS?
That's the real shitter. It'd be 'Ok he's emphasising the wrong things' if we were fast or had endurance, but still weak, but when players need explosive speed, endurance and strength, how on earth can you miss all three? o_O

The problem that I see is that building endurance is only half the battle - it needs to be endurance at a consistently high intensity. I can walk quite easily for 20km without breaking a sweat...try sprinting it though. That's why I don't believe our preseason camps are tackling the problem the right way...it's that loser mentality of "it's ok as long as you finish". Football isn't one long marathon, played at a consistent cadence - it's more interval training - explosive burst of pace here, rest there, use core strength there and so on.

Dear Diary,

I hate Matt Thomas. How can I keep the gym equipment looking brand new and shiny if Matt is always using it? Things have gotten worse since Brad and John came to the club. I think it's wearing off on some of the other players now. Not happy Jan. Travis has been using the equipment a lot more as well. Maybe he'll go to Geelong next year and wear out their equipment.

Pre-requisite to make the team in any form next season is to have vomitted at least a dozen times during the pre-season! This does not include, after a big night out trawling for slurries on Hindley street....

Im not a fan of Falloon as we have been getting overrun in games since 2008. Part of the blame is mental and part is physical but both are related as when you are truly confident in your physical attributes (strength, speed, agility etc..) you are usually mentally at your best.

I'd love to know however how many of our players train extra and go above beyond what is set out for them. Not just fitness wise but skills as well. Judd, Swan, Pendlebury, Ablett, S Thompson and co do not develop their physiques through doing the minimum. All those players probably have don extra's and still continue to do extras thats why the constantly perform at such a high levels. I don't believe in overtraining but I would find it hard to believe that any of our players train extra than what is allocated by coaches in the pre season and during the year.

Carlile's body shape has not changed, Chaplin has list weight around the gut, Trengove is still awkward and gangly dying to put on kg's, Butcher MUST stack on size this preseason, Redden was a big lump of a lad when we got him but we need him.bigger, Schulz was bigger at Richmond, Renouff needs to add size to his frame, Pittard, Moore, Jacobs, Wingard, Boak all need to seriously develop in the next 6 months to become elite AFL players, Ah Che could do with a bit more size... I hope we manage to get Garlett his geenes and game will allow him to succeed at the size he is but 20kg's would be ideal, keeping speed is a key though...

It's pretty freaking obvious all his niggling back/hamstring/hip injuries come because his core is woefully underdeveloped and can't currently support any sort of prolonged athletic pursuits on that frame.

Even allowing for his cotton wool status during the bulk of his first full year on the list it is absolutely unforgivable that we haven't sorted this out by now.

Is it purely coincidence that 2 of our lightest framed players in Pittard and Hitchcock suffer chronic hamstring injuries once they add a bit of weight to their frame?

Bolded are potential best 22.

Imagine if we played our best 22 every game this season.

"Dear Diary, Peter pulled me aside today and pointed out that the supporters are very critical of me on the 'Blogosphere'. I asked him how he knew. He said he posted at BigFooty under the name Statman87. Read some of it myself and got pretty hot under the collar. I defy any of these anonymous keyboard heroes to look me in the eye and tell me Port aren't the best prepared Rugby Sevens team going! Anyway, Jeff Dunham torrent's just finished downloading."
