Is anyone else insulted that we now have to pay to attend family day?

As a full member - I am beginning to doubt the benefits of paying the 'extra' money... what do we really get - voting rights, access to finals tickets and match day access to the social club.

Well lets start with voting rights, only 1700 of the eligible 7000 actually voted this year. Finals tickets - great when we get into finals, but not all entitled members take up this option (I suspect mainly because of the cost). Match day access to the social club - well its pretty busy before the match although only a few stay after the match to see the awards. Access at other times has been severly cut back - lunches only on Sunday and dinner a few nights a week.

So, what are we really getting for our extra money. A family of four (who are members) now has to pay $20- to attend family day whilst non-member family pays $30. For an adult ticket we get a whole $2 discount - wow!! Not to mention $8 for a sausage is pretty exorbitant.

Today I read in the Courier Mail that the club is holding a free sausage sizzle with players in attendance prior to the match on Saturday night (no doubt as a membership drive). So, I am now even more disgusted.

What happened to supporting your fans? At least those who support you? Why should we have to pay to see our players?

Whilst I support the fact that the jumper presentation is not a corporate function this year, the fact I have to pay to attend is insulting. Even more so, that as a full member we don't receive any recognition from the club for the "extra" we contribute. And I'm not just talking about the money - we also contribute goodwill, I don't know any full member who hasn't introduced at least one other person who has subsequently taken up a membership. Not to mention that we talk about the lions at work, at home, socially - spreading the word.

Comments anyone?????

I am not a Brisbane-based member, but I am still pretty amazed to hear that. You would pay a pretty large amount for full membership nowadays (especially since the introduction of the GST) so yeah, having to pay for things like that on top isn't so great. And it won't bring potential members to the club either. I thought that was the whole idea of a Family Day, somewhere people could bring their kids, have a sausage, mingle with the players and look at buying a membership. Perhaps if it was say $1 or $2 admission, that would be different, but any more than that.......I just think it's a bit unfair, I am really interested to see what other Brisbane-based people have to say about it.

As much as it bothers me that we have to pay, I still think it is a better idea than the last 2 family days - one at seaworld and the other at dreamworld.

At least this time is isn't going to cost us as much, it will be more 'football' focused, and we will be able to feed the whole family seeing as the cost includes the BBQ. Not like Seaworld last year.

What would you prefer? To see Lynchy riding around in a speedboat? Or kicking a footy with a kid in the clinic they are having this year? I know I would prefer to see the kids benefitting more from it.

Couldn't have said it any better myself Danni.
Hence the reason this Family has boycotted renewing our memberships with the Lions for all the add on extras they charge after you have renewed.

Seems as thought the Family day they had down in Melbourne the previous 2 seasons were more worthwhile than what we got dished out up here.
They even ran out of food at one function, so what was the point of hanging around?
Oh well, enough sour grapes.. lets see what happens with the Cheersquad this year.
