I used to work for a major sporting body and can confirm that the referees phone numbers were not disclosed to anyone, not even me. We were given the contact number to a cheap little nokia phone they'd carry. They'd often cycle through three of them in a calendar year. This arose because someone leaked an officials number in the past and they received thousands of threatening messages as a result. So gross.
