Ahhh control.. the delusion of man.. the laughter of god

It's clearly more then not being a whiner, why else would you go to the time and effort to try and free any responsibility for list management???? I also stipulated there was a point. You give yourself the best possible chance and if you have done it well enough you end up in a position where there is simply no excuses other then bad luck. We have not put ourself in that position. Unlike clearly neglecting the importance of having a ruckmen that can play football until it costs you a prelim and then paying over the odds for a ruckmen out of desperation.

Just stating the obvious, you can improve your chances ever so slightly but that can be done with Lotto as well

Unlike lottery the odds are a lot better. You have a number of clear factors which come in to play you have a lot more control hence the strike rate being a lot higher. Also unlike lotto you don't have to be the overall winner, we just have to be above average across the 16 teams. Again unlike lotto your numbers carry over into the next draw if you will so you have time to accumulate your winner. I'd say lotto is a pretty poor comparision and one you are using to try and exagherate the amount of luck involved and hence try and minimise the responsibility.

That could be said of horse racing.. another mugs game :p

Horse racing is a better indication but as I said you don't have to get it right all in one race. Nor do you have to specifically get the top 3 results or anything of the sort. Results carrying over makes a huge difference. Betting on the horse's has a lot less freedom for mistakes and doesn't reward consistancy it requires perfect streaks and being 100% spot on.

The draft is a lottery because you are assessing kids and hoping to extrapolate from that what they will be like as men

Obivously an old man who isn't familiar with the level of Tac and all u/18 competition. Or one who hasn't played a high level of football or one who is delibrately trying to over exagherate the level of randomness in drafting. The amount of work and development put into them means whilst they are 18 it's not like drafting a "kid" at all. A lot of the WA and SA boys actually play in the overage comps and dominate there too.

The amount of gym and development time and skills work and access to coaching etc they have is unreal and your either old and with little knowledge of the juniour development system. Or as I would suspect delibrately trying to over emphasis the amount of chance involved in drafting.

There are clear guageable factors, sometimes, something out of the ordinary happens but more often then not it doesn't. It's a matter of guaging the skills and attributes displayed and the likliness of improvement and the scope for improvement.
