We should have enough for 10 competitors again. It's one of the more enjoyable games I've played, especially the draft part of the game.

On the draft, last time we unlimited time between picks, which was just a disaster.

I really like the fast paced nature of the live draft. Would require some quick thinking, and you can get through in a couple of hours, instead of the 2-3 weeks it took last year!!!

If we don't go with the live draft, we have to put a limit on time though. Maybe 3 hours???

3 hours is difficult because it makes picks occur during the middle of the night. But a set time limit definitely needs to be established.
 
From experience UF is definitely the best way to roll. First of all its free, unless you want extra special mega awesome customisation tools, which tbh aren't really needed. Its also very easy to use and I know countless others that play UF over DT & SC draft.

UF just opened today for 2014 actually :D

Ill explain how we did our draft. Im not saying its the best way but I think its the one of the most practical.

To begin with all 10 of us guys met up one friday night while a NAB cup game was on or something and we tried to get through a fair chunk of the draft. We each had 30 live picks, 22 field players, 4 emergencies and 4 bench players. We opted for this amount of players to keep it exactly like DT and SC are played with same amount of players in each position. There were definitely enough players to go round for those wondering. I reckon the 10 man league with 28 picks worked perfectly and was really well balanced, but there is definitely room to extend it to 12 if we want to go down that route.

I think that we should do something similar, all put aside one night to try and get as much out the way as possible. Even if its only the first 10 or so rounds it really kick starts things.

After this we each had 12 hours to make our pick. While this may seem like a lot let me explain. By each having 12 hours a pick, it easily catered for people having work, university lessons and of course, sleep where they were unable to make a pick obviously. If people still couldnt get a pick in this time frame, they made sure they had preferences set for their next 1-2 picks so that we could keep the ball moving, and also so that they importantly wouldnt end up with some random. People were encouraged to make their picks ASAP and we all text each other when the next person was up. This only lasted about 4 or 5 days before the draft was completed.

We could run a very similar system, and im sure that all that are playing will be on the ball and committed to getting the draft done. We can have our own thread and tag others etc etc. Its the best part of the game ffs and im sure others are just as excited to get it done with as I am!:p

Just for extra info we ran a snake order draft obviously and the person who ended up having the last pick int he first round was given the 1st preference for the waiver wire.

Again im not really not fussed what we format we play, but given it is a draft system and already different + harder to normal fantasy team games, I would recommend DT scoring system. However like I said we can vote on that once the playing list is decided.


We need to decide, 10 or 12 man league?? So far we have a short list of..

I think I said this already, everyone with the exception of Coopers was playing the game. I really have no idea how UF scores points, so if anyone has a link for a score breakdown that would be useful. I played UF last year and was not overly impressed, thought it was a tad overrated. Especially now SuperCoach has multi trades. My vote would be from virtual sports either DreamTeam or SuperCoach
 
arusso707 I also agree about 12 hours. If we decided to do a long draft over a live draft, 12 hours is fine. Also I'm happy enough to play UltimateFooty. I'm just adding my perspective. :) I'll go along with whatever people decide. :)

Ultimate footy uses standard DT scoring systems, or if you want you can go in and edit all the categories yourself and set your own personal preference of points. They do not have SC sorry and if so, we would have to go through the supercoach draft site.

What didnt you like about UF if I may ask? it worked perfectly fine for us 2 years in a row now and we loved it.

By multi trades do you mean trading 4 players for 1 or 2 for 2 etc? cos UF has that feature.

Yeah we set the picks to 12 hours from the very start, but tried to knock most of it off on the first night so the draft didnt drag out for 2 weeks or something stupid. Just cos its set at 12 horus doesnt mean you have to take 12 hours obviously:p

Im also quite easy on days, just not Tuesday nights, or Saturday nights really.

Edit: Just saw we were doing longer term drafts. If thats the case we should begin ASAP, given 280 picks in the draft (going by the setup mentioned)

Haha I still don't think people understand. The live draft can still take place. We can put aside one night to smash out as much as possible on the one night. Whatever we get up to on the night, people then have 12 hour picks to fill the remainder of their team. Like I said just cos it's 12 hour picks, doesn't mean we can sit down and trash it out. As soon as one player makes their pick the next person is up, you don't have to wait for the full 12 hours to pass by in order for the next selection to take place.

We did unlimited time last year and while the first few were quick, not everyone gets the concept you're pushing. Even with 12 hours it take 1 to stop your idea of smashing out a large chunk in one night.

Yep all good with that.
Trouble is all it takes is for one person not to be there that night to have a 12 hour wait.
Or am I missing something?

Nahh you're correct in saying that, so yeah we are going to all have to put aside one night, or that person is going to at least have to put in a few preferences for a couple of picks to keep things moving.

But I'm hoping we can all find a few hours to sit down one night and get through a fair chunk of it.
 
Im happy to if people were comfortable with that :) But tbh it doesnt bother me, just as long as we have all the rules aligned.

I was actually going to create a league on UF just to muck around with the settings with byes and all. Last year with 3 byes and 4 games of finals in a 10 man league there were 16 fixtures if you skipped the byes, which is what we did.

This year there are 2 lots of bye rounds meaning that there will only be 13 fixture games this year if you decide to not have match ups during the bye rounds. I was going to see if there was an option where for the bye rounds a reduced team can be fielded, say 18 players instead of the 22 for these rounds to make it a lot easier for everyone, and leaving a total of 19 match ups so you get to play everyone twice at least.

Tbh I hate drafting my team according to who misses what bye rounds and making sure you have a full strength team, which is why we decided to skip the rounds last year. Obviously it takes a lot more skill and preparation having to draft a suitable team that wont be slaughtered during these rounds, but I personally think it takes half the fun out of drafting aspect of the game. Id rather just draft the players I want rather than trying to plan 7 million years ahead:p Also one or 2 long term injuries to your players and you can throw literally all that hard work and preparation in the bin and prepare for a beating:(

But considering it will mean only having 13 fixtures Im happy to put in a work around to play through these 2 bye rounds is others are? If UF doesnt have a feature where we can field reduced teams, Im thinking maybe for that week we could all agree to field a reduced team with equal players on both sides. Obviously this means that emergencies can be played as they will cover these empty spots on your team, so better put your safest team forward or else tough love.
