fraser wasnt playing so i think i wont :D

Quote on issue 2.

"Cameron Wood
If you thought Wood only played well
against West Coast two weeks ago
because Fraser was out of the side, think
again. With both in the side against the
Power, Wood was still a good DT point
scorer, finishing with 73 points thanks
largely to his tally of eight marks."

What gives you the indication that he wont play a single AFL game? His form warrants games and if he keeps it up he will get games.

Plenty of players have played AFL and completed year 12. Ball and Ellis are the only ones I know that sat out their first year of AFL footy completely. For Collingwood T.Cloke and McGough have played while in year 12.

As for the people complaining about the newsletter, just get over it. Fantasy footy is popular and Champ Data are trying to promote their business through it. Picking 'bolters' is a very small part of DT/SC. Besides you can't just pick a few names that they've highlighted you have to interpret the information. Having too much information is as useless as having very little information. There are probably over 30 'bargains' the newsletter throws up, the real skill is determining whether they are really going to grow that much in the real season or if they're going to get you points and the balancing act between that.

It's decisions such as selling off say a $250,000 player for a cheap 'bolter' worth $100,000, and what you're going to use the extra $150,000 on? Are you going to trade in a great player for an expensive gun, what if they blow it this season? Would it be better to keep that $250,000 guy due to the fact that he'd give you more points per game and would probably grow in value himself? It's the trading game and the balancing act between performance and growth that makes it not so easy.

Picking the guns is harder than picking the younger undervalued players. It's like the stock market, you could probably get plenty of tips on undervalued stock, but when do you sell? Are you looking for dividends or capital growth?

Have a think about how West Coast will line up round 1. Go over to the West Coast board and have a look what they are thinking. Selwood is still a long shot to play round 1.

yeah i had look and cant remember seeing a single team with him in it
i will keep an eye on this one thought because if he does play he will be a 60+rookie easily

but in saying that eagles have a lot of small/medium defenders and quite a host of midfielders (yes still)

eventhough he is worthy of a spot he mite just be squeezed out of one

Daniel Jackson finished year 12 and played footy for carey in his first year.

Cloke did his ova 2 years, ive been informed

Be aware with Medhurst that he is getting midfield time in the NAB Cup but come Round 1 there probably won't be room for him and he'll go back to the possession-dry forward pocket while the likes of Thomas, Didak, Davis get more midfield time ahead of him. These are the things the newsletter doesn't tell you. Very risky.

Damn this email, damn it to hell, just when I thought I had my DT squad sorted out I get the info contained which suggests some of the players I originally wanted but went of because I didn't think they were travelling as well are now playing very well, but how much of that is coaches giving players a chance in meaningless preseason games and how much of it is actually those players playing well.:mad::D

:D And that is where both the fun, and the games, really begin... :)

The newsletter is certainly an advantage, but it's certainly not a lay down misere.

Just spent the last 45 minutes tweaking my squad and using the players averages for the preseason managed to improve my teams base score by 116 points. Only query is if the players I have included are going to keep performing as they have, this weeks final round of practice matches will certainly help sort it out as most teams will be playing close to their round 1 lineup, oh well I'll sit back and wait until next Wednesday's email and see how it goes.

IMHO that's of absolutely no value whatsoever. The only reason I can think of that you would do that is that you're reeeally bored and extremely keen for DT to open and the season to start.. like the rest of us :)

Or I might be trying to get the most value out of the team that I enter, so I can start the season well so that when I start trading I might not have to use as many trades as others will. Plus being a shift worker with 7 hours to kill before starting work I need to fill my time in somehow. :)

BTW I read last year where the bloke who won the comp spent 3 days studying players before finalising their team. Study may have been a waste at school but when it comes to DT a bit of study can make all the difference. ;)

I'm not saying study is of no value.

I'm saying using playing averages from two to three games in a pre season competition, extrapolating a team score and believing it means anything whatsoever is of no value.

The bloke who won last year studied alright but not like that ;)
