Finally finished Dead Space, so now on to FarCry2

Chucked it on briefly yesterday (only 5 mins or so) the game certainly looks amazing.

Cannot wait to get into it.

TL, why are you selling it? Not a fan?

I'm hooked on it, I think it's excellent. Beautiful looking at sunrise and sunset. I'm just starting off the second map:
Did anyone else choose to go to the church instead of Mike's Bar?

Yeah i did mate.

I think it was the right decision in the end

Did you get killed by the dudes jumping into the church thru the windows?

I figured the mercs were there by choice, they knew what they were getting into. Those poor civilians were just trying to live there, they needed the help :)

Yep my thoughts too.

And yeah. I think its unavoidable getting smashed in the church. I fought em off for ages, and they just kept coming. One eventually just grenaded me.

I think you're supposed to go down

The story doesn't motivate me to play, it's too bland for my liking. Conventional, real world FPS isn't my cup of tea I've concluded, I need something outlandish like Bioshock or Fallout.

Fair enough. I'm just keen to explore the huge map and environments.

So what are you going to do when there is a lack of outlandish games being released and we see more real world FPS being released (hypothetically of course - just meaning if that were to happen). Would you just veto buying games for that period?

There's always something for me to buy outside the FPS genre. I give these games a chance, but they always let me down. COD4, Far Cry 2, R6V; none of them appeal to me.

Haha i was the opposite - i thought "who the **** are those civilians, i dont even know them - im gonna help my mates!!"

Just because I wanted to I gave a go of both going to Mike's Bar and the Church, you get 'killed' at both, I think the Church is the best option though as your mates die in Mike's Bar, so regardless they die, but the people at the Church might have lived, don't know if they appear later on in the story.

And it is the same situation after you 'die' too, just don't know how and if it affects the story later on.

Yeah thought it would be a similar result, was going to try the other but you all have saved me the trouble :thumbsu:

I havn't made much progress in the overall storyline i'm about 27% through. But it feels like i havn't done many main missions, i've gone through a lot of missions for the guys at the weapons shop AND to secure more Malaria medication. I've been back to the central location (that area in the middle where the two sides are closest to each other) a few times, but it feels like i've been doing the side missions and hunting for diamonds more frequently.

Also funny how i do a bit of offroad exploring (usually when attempting to avoid conflict) and i stumble on a diamond case :thumbsu:

pciked up the grenade launcher that goes in 2nd primary slot (m79??) and the silenced makarov last night. right now my set up is

Dragunov - primary
M79 grenade launcher - secondary
MSAW (big **** off machine gun) - Special

Guard posts just dont stand a chance, really got the hang of destroying them without being seen and (thanks to Mancey) sniping a rebel unseen in the leg/gut then waiting and watching to see his mates try and drag him to safety, then grenade launcher or molotov cocktail comes flying out of nowhere and engulfing them in flames.

I want to get fallout 3 but i dont think ill have the time for both of them, I still havent touched Fifa 09 and dont plan too this weekend, its all about being a merc in Africa.

Btw are there any hang gliders in the nothern map (im at 23% through), if so any locations??

There's one up in the north west near a safe house. Can't say i've found much use for them tbh

Ive found 3, one NW of the North Railyard, one east of Cattle Xing near the safe house and North of Pala along the right side of the river in between a bridge with an unmarked guard post and a safehouse.

And if your wondering what they are for... the 1st and 3rd ones are for unreachable diamonds on rock and a cliff.

Im getting tempted to put down far cry 2 and play gears, then fallout 3, then deadspace and finially go back to far cry if it doesn't get good soon.

Yep. I bought an MP5 thinking it'd be a secondary, and had to reload from my previous save to annul that decision. Its a nice gun, but a bit extravagant to carry in the primary slot.

extravagant how? It might not have the power of an assault rifle but it still has a great range, no recoil and is silenced.

/shrug
Ive done most of the game with a M79/silenced mp5/dart rifle loadout

I carry the M79 as well as the secondary. But yeah, if i'm carrying the dart rifle i'll use the Scoped Assault rifle (AR16?...been a while since i played, on fallout 3 now) as a primary because its far more powerful and has a bit more range than the mp5. Not silenced of course, but i generally do all my stealth work from range with the dart rifle anyway.

Most of the time i'll just use the 50 cal sniper as a primary and a SAW in the special with the M79. You have range, explosives and close combat firepower in 3 guns there

By extravagant i mean, the mp5 is nice and all, but all it really has going for it is that its silenced. It doesnt give the range of a dedicated sniper or the punch of an assault rifle. To me, just doesn't give good value.

But everyone will play the game different:thumbsu:
