I can't believe there were actually people complaining about him this year. His worst football wasn't even that bad, at worst his disposal was shaky and his speed was sub-par, but at his best, he was able to play the DBJ role as a smaller defender and do it pretty well too. Wish he wasn't injured last year, would've liked to get more football into him.

Sad day. It was always going to be a battle for him to get back after the last couple of years with injuries and credit to him for having the determination to get back on the field for those last few games.

We all had a soft spot for Broadie. Would love to see him still around the club in some capacity, but whatever he chooses to do next I just want him to be happy and at peace with life.

Started out out of nowhere getting regular games with little fanfare, on the HFF became a bit of a reliable goal kicker, til he jumped the blocks as a midfielder in the North comeback game, then before we knew it he was out of the middle and on the HBF (Ken). Became a reliable mature player down back and still managed the occasional big goal. As injuries struck though you could see he was beginning to look susceptible to replacement by new talent as he aged beyond his years.

Gave his all, rarely let us down. All you can ask.

Now you can have a smoke in peace!

Played quality football for a number of seasons. His long range kicking and composure were a great asset. Thanks for your dedicated service to PA.

He will either be playing for South next year or living in Canada with his brother.

Do you know where in Canada? If its Toronto or southern Ontario he could be playing in the oldest continuous league in the northern hemisphere. That would be bit of of a coup for AFL Ontario. He probably would get a job out of it as there are plenty of Aussie management types involved in the league. He's not turning 30 until mid next year so he is eligible to apply for those 2 year work visas Aussies between 18 and 30 can get, meeting some very basic requirements. Haha I reckon my Port supporting mate on the executive team at Barrick Gold could probably help out. There is a reciprocal visa for young Canadians to work in Oz.

Surely there is more to it than playing?

would of thought someone would have picked him up as DFA, 100% AFL quality still. One of the only players on our list who actually made good decisions and would hit a target.

Maybe him taking time away for mental health kept clubs away? Hope that wasnt the case.

He's too slow for AFL level footy.

Matty signing with South Adelaide instead of WWT is a bit of a surprise.

The pull of working at the Lonsdale Industrial Estate was to great.

He was ok when he could zone off, get out in space and chip it around, but he got found out when he had to run chase and tackle. The game has passed him by for he lost the pace and that is it. Will be a good player at sanfl level for South.

1964. It's the SNAFL's one remaining fairytale...
Since Port won its last SNAFL flag in 1999, everyone of the other clubs have won a flag except for south. crows don't count.
