Well, that was a bit different. Not sure we knew enough about Ennis to warrant an episode on his back story, then the last minute or so just felt like a real tease.

It's a good show, just contemplating whether it might be better enjoyed banking the remaining eps and bingeing it?

I'm thinking the same.

The World of Tomorrow influenced sci-fi animation is kind of a weird touch. But I did love the Thomas Mann scenes and the references to Barton Fink.

I am interested in what this season wants to say about stories. There's a quote from Hawley about how the UFOs from last season were as a sort of reminder that truth is crazier than fiction. And so far this season, between the East Germany season cold open, Carrie Coon's reflection that "it doesn't matter because all of this is a story", and this season increased highlight on its opening "this is a true story" title card, it seems to be hinting there be something bigger at play even if it's just a theme.

Plus there are a ton of guest stars this year, most with connections to other shows (and other Coen brothers movies). Kind of think this season would be more enjoyable binging it week to week but there's some interesting stuff to unpack here and there.

"Trent Steel"
"Thaddeus Mob- I mean Ennis Stussy"
"Ooh hey! Great name!"
"Yeah, isn't it? I got it off a toilet"

Not sold on Varga, he speaks in endless riddles but never actually seems to say anything. Seems a bit of an awkward fit as a character and a little boring.

Cop storyline shaping as most enjoyable for mine but a little underwhelmed so far.

Yeah they'd want to crank it up a bit, easily the least engaging season so far for mine.

Its Fargo though so still better than most things on TV. Liked the Billy Bob narration and Peter & The Wolf music.

Not sure why Ray would miss the meeting with the sponsor at the end? He was drinking somewhere like he was upset about being fired but isn't that what he wanted? To be able to continue to see Nikki and become professional bridge players?

Also love how barren and white the modern Minnesota scenes are this season. Just looks like death.

I was wondering about this actually. It's filmed in Alberta and they didn't have half as much snow as normal. I was there over Christmas and it was grassy. Very little snow on the ground. Wonder when they filmed.

Have to admit I wasn't fully engaged watching it, but perhaps he was mulling over some of the things said prior to his dismissal; ie. her using him, him saying he loved her, robbing his brother etc.

He's not the brightest spark so it might've just clicked with him hours later.

From memory, it was two books. One with an image on the cover resembling the statue.

The other mystery for me -- the first 5 minutes. The Germans. What was that?

East Germany, and it will fit later on. As the time has moved from 1988 in East Germany to 2010.

The murdered old snarly drinking bastard, has more to do with the story, the female officer , she is his STEP relative, complicated, follow carefully.

There will be relatives and involvement here, I feel the usual creepyness come in to it , it is moving on slowly and in a deadly manner, and will be genius like them all.
Ewan McGregor is brilliant, I can see him , yet not , if you know what I mean, the two brothers are totally different , but the same. Each brother is his own character same but different , makes McGregor actor vanish, and the brothers appear , really good.
Yep this'll be great!

Thewlis, Coon, Winstead and McGregor. Would watch for those four alone.

Criticism for the season is fair, but still an enjoyable watch. Hopefully it has a few surprises along the way.
Good stuff always has to build , its the audience that follows up and watches that eventually gets the most out of it, I think the Coens sort of stuff has you thinking about things sometimes years after you've seen it.

I can never forget The Movie Fargo and Francis McDormand, then Billy Bob , Martin (the Hobbit) Freeman, and in the 2nd one I could not help feel the menace from Jeffrey Donovan, the two police Patrick Wilson and Ted Danson in deadly stand offs and , its hard to explain that side of it, what jobs those blokes had and they must have been terrified most of the time but they stood their ground doing duty , then the other side the Gherharts and the malevolence and anger drove them the other way, but they too just had that thing.
Like a control over fear but in different ways to the cops, who seemed to take duty responsibilities over any thing else.
