I love his endeavour and attitude and from reliable sources he is an A-Grade bloke. Great to have around footy clubs. I must say that i am surprised at talk of high wages. He is a C-grader and in this market he is minimum wage with finals and awards bonuses. No more. I am also surprised at 2 years. I would have thought 1 year. Good luck to him though - it shows that hard work and the right attitude pay off.

Where's the talk of high wages? $275K isn't high for AFL footballer that's played over 170 games and 97 for the club. Especially when you take into account pay cut he took last time.

I genuinely like Farren Ray and glad to see him sign up for a few more years. The mix between experienced and inexperienced players really needs to be maintained at this point. May not play every game, but will be a good back up for when the kids need a break to refresh their young legs.

The talk on this forum was $550k.
I think the fact that he is a ripping bloke is colouring people's perception of his ability. He took a cut - fine - we can make it up this year but what if he had been trade last year? He is not Barks or Lenny who took a hit for years but were champions and would be entitled to ongoing repayment for past deeds (although unfortunately the great man passed before he could be repaid). Ray is a good ordinary player with poor kicking and poor decision making which is brought about by his inability to hit a target with confidence. He still crabs sideways and will not take us to a premiership. His kick into the forward 50 in the dying minutes against Port was it for me. I don't see how how he should be paid anymore than what he is worth in the marketplace - minus the inflation most blokes get when they move - add back a bit for taking a hit last year if that was the deal with the club. If that is $275 then fine. If not - we are paying overs. I also don't understand why we would sign him mid-year? He might have been the perfect senior player to be part of a GWS trade.

Remember it takes more than the 22 blokes that play on the day to win a premiership.

I would have been happier with one year, but I'm fine with what he has received. He's our best outside link player who can be relied upon to keep running when others find it too difficult.

Yep happy to have him on the list. Faz would´t have been in most people´s best 22 at the start of the season and while injuries have helped him keep his place, he´s done quite well this season. Very good overhead mark and can play run with roles well. A good ordinary player like Jones and plays his heart out for the club. Every club has these kind of players and even if some youngsters overtake him he´s good for depth. We seem to not notice the output of players who have designated roles as much but somebody has gotta put their hand up. I see that Gears hasn´t been as spectular as last season but geez the opposition guns would hate seeing number 14 run over and pick them up. Good call Saints.

Awesome. One of my favourite players in the last couple of years. I think people don't like him when they think of him as '#4 draft pick', but on his own merits he's a pretty well-rounded player. Still recall his crazy good game against Adelaide a few years ago + role in '10 GF, and even though his numbers against Melbourne this year probably don't mean a heap, you could see how valuable he was during the game against Port.

He's also been durable which is always a big plus.
