Farren Ray

It certainly is worth consideration. Can you summarise Murphy for me? Ray could be potentially a very good player. At times looks too laconic and almost half-hearted in application. He is very capable though of a 'big' match. Unfortuanely for us/him and others, we have too many players with his attributes.

With the exception of the absolute elite (eg. Pav, Brown, Johnson and a few others) KPP players are often in and out of games. His start to this season seemed like a step back after a great finish to last year including a solid game in the Semi-Final. He was dropped and superb form at WAFL level force his way back into the team. At WAFL level he played more a s a pure FF. In the Dockers he simply can’t play that role with Pav, Tarrant and occasionally McPharlin doing the job. Nevertheless, his season improved towards the end where I think its fair to say he looked anything but laconic. He will never be a super star, but as a strong marking accurate kicking forward to take some of the heat off Johnson and Murphy and allow them to use their flexibility around the forward half of the field, he would do the job nicely. He showed glimpses of being able to work in defense too this year.

Ray perhaps has shown a bit more from what I’ve seen, but I don’t think he is ever going to be a superstar either. I think a straight swap would be close to fair, with perhaps a 2nd for 3rd pick in the Doggies favour would be about right. In truth, the only thing that Ray brings to the Dockers that we really need (that we can’t get from Peak, Headland and some of the young guys like Foster) is a bigger engine. He seems to be really fit and run all day. In the few games I’ve seen, he doesn’t have out of this world disposal, good not great. He can break the lines if the pressure isn’t too fierce which is probably where Peake is at. Great addition to us, but I wouldn’t sell the farm for him.

Not a bad assessment but I think people are underrating Spud. He has great attributes as a forward. Fantastic accurate kicking, Great hands and an ability to lead and get the front spot. Just unfortunate for him that with the forwards we have he doesn’t get the no 1 forward position. He showed last year how good he is. The trading of Taz has held him back and hurt his confidence but he is a very good forward. I would expect more than just Ray for him.

I'd be happy with Farren Ray & Dogs 6th pick & 3rd rounder

for

Ryan Murphy & Freo's 7th pick

Sounds like a good deal. Where would one sign?

Probably about right if we must lose him :( I would still perfer we target CC and Melbourne for their 3rd pick as a replacement for Neitz. I.e Murphy and our pick 7 for their 3rd plus their 3rd pick or something similar.

Let Ray stay where he is. There is no need for him, Unless he realy wants to come home and its really bargin trade IE 2nd round tops.
IMO i would use Peake Ibbotson as my 1st option, Foster Schammer 2nd option, Drum Crowley 3rd option on the wing, rotating them through out the game. The list would go on and on as we have a lot of midfielder already they are just not fast enough.

Farren was highly touted as a junior yet if I can remember correctly there was some concern over his disposal. If he was to be put on the table for Ryan Murphy I would seriously consider it. He would be a good addition to the rotation and one I believe could be of benefit to the club in the future. Ryley Dunn I believe will become that in and under midfielder the club needs and Foster has shown he has what it takes to get the ball. Ibbo in my opinion will still be a better player for the club than Peake and Brock has shown he has some talent across the middle/wing. Things aren't looking as bad as many made out in regards to the young midfielders the club has. Get in Palmer/Matsen and I would be very happy going forward that the squad has what it takes.

Ryley Dunn is lucky to still be on the list and the Club has virtually no chance of getting Palmer or Masten.

The fact that Dunn is still on the list after his luck with injuries shows just how much the club does rate him. The guy is still young and has all the talent in the world to make it at the top level. I have no doubt he will.

Probably true if they don't trade for a better first round pick. We don't have a history of going after better picks either. :(

I think you are being unfair. Ray is someone I would not want to let go. Farren Ray will develop into a very good footballer and I hope he stays at the Bullies. His marking above his head is good and I think once he develops a little more and gains more core strength he will be very handy.

Lets face it, if Ryan Murphy was any good you would not want him to leave.

We have Pavlich and Tarrant. Solomon has also been very good as a forward this year, and Johnson, McPharlin and Mundy can be swung forward when required. Adam Campbell and Marcus Drum have looked good during limited opportunities this year and we have two 7 foot ruckmen. We have a plethora of talls, you have too many smalls.

The difference is that Murphy's opportunities have been limited because you can only play 2 or 3 tall forwards, but you can play 8 or 9 midfielders. If both were on the market there would be much more interest in Murphy, and if a straight swap happens it will be a win for the doggies. You need Murphy more than we need Ray.

So you reckon they'll both be gone top 6? Who will be left for us at #7 IYO (I'm talking midfielders that the club might be likely to select...).

I reckon he's wrong. Dont be miffed by Palmer's form in the WAFL. Clayton Collard was kicking 6 off a wing last year. He went at pick 31.

I think we'll end up with either Palmar/Masten/Ebert/Morton.....

I thought I made myself pretty clear when I said 'don't pick up players with stupid names' THEY CAN'T BE TRUSTED!!!!.....first theres talk of beatnick Kepler Bradley, now of mister wilderness Farren Ray, Seriously c'mon, Just look at our own back yard to see what I mean, Brock O'Brien....Brock!!!! a name you could set a watch to (quartz maybe???.....) But I digress....No stupid names Freo it's as simple as that....

No comparison whatsoever, completely different type of player to Collard.

Tarkyn Lockyer would have been good on our list.

We have always had players with questionable names. There was the whole Shell, Bell, Shipp collective for a start. How are you with Clayton? Calib? Clive?

So who do you reckon we'll get with pick 7? If one of Palmer or Masten end up still available, I'd be rapt... If not - who will be do you reckon? Serious question. :)

Assuming Cotchin, Ebert, Palmer & Masten are gone before pick 7 that would still leave the highly rated Cyril Rioli as well as Jack Grimes, Pat Veszpremi and Scott Selwood.

We should also seriously have a look at someone like Callum Wilson as a late pick or rookie as a full back, he is very versatile and kicked 5 goals on his WAFL debut. Plays his best footy in defence.

If one of them is still available at 7, providing we still have pick 7, I'd be happy with either one but preferably Masten who has more chance of being there than Palmer. Palmer will go in the first four along with Kreuzer, Morton and Cotchin.

You would have as much chance as Wilson of getting picked up!

From that statement you obviously you dont watch the Bulldogs play a lot. As someone who does he would have only made a very minimal impact with us. Unless Polak could have played a crash and bash role in the forward line, as a hard running midfielder or as a competent ruckman his efforts would have been wasted with us this year.
What we are trying to say is that last year, when Polak was being discussed as a trade, everyone but Dockers supporters suggested he was a worthless, undisciplined no hoper. It's not specific to the Bulldogs.

I think Murphy has dug himself into the same kind of hole as Polak, and is potentially a better player. I could almost guarantee with regular games you would get 40 goals a year out of him. He is in a different league to Andrew McDougall for example.

what about david myers? 190 cm utility who sounds like a Smart pick

We need midfielders to complement the guys we already have eg. Hase and J. Carr... We dont need more utilities ie. 190cm half back flankers which we have already...
