Bump

In case we forget Big Footy Dogs has about 15 Shipping Containers of threads relating to Farren Ray's exit

This is just one of them

I don't know if the Dog's site archiving department could handle the flurry of posts if for some reason he made a re-entry

I still think had he stayed at the Dogs that he wouldn't have been in our best 22 for the most part since he left.

I think now, he would still not be in our best 22. He is certainly a better player now and I thought he lacked a bit of opportunity under Eade, but I'm not sure on a needs basis that he's the sort of player we go after.

Depends on the deal as always....but on the surface I say pass.

As long as he comes cheap then I'd consider bringing him back. If we have to pay anything more than a third rounder or a depth player than it would be far too much.

He was a complete bust for a pick 4. Should have been drafted in the 35+ range.

That's completely unfair.

4. Ray
5. McLean
6. Bradley
7. Tenace (How come nobody wants everyone at Geelong sacked for this?)
8. Raph Clarke
9. Trotter
10. Dunn

Farren Ray is pretty much the pick of the bunch in the rest of that top 10 AND that is even with the benefit of every Bulldogs(and AFL) fans best friend HINDSIGHT.

If anything, that's some pretty bloody shrewd recruiting. Not often a pick 4 edges out everyone behind him in the top 10.

I forgot how shit that draft was. Jesus christ...

You sure about that?

I think Bradley has excelled past him, particularly in the last few years.

Bradley has played about three good games for Fremantle (one of them against us, incidentally).

Hardly a solid point of comparison.

One thing that can never be taken away from Farren

In the 2006 Elimination Final after Monty got unfairly knocked out by Sniper Holland

Farren not only stood up but stood up big time, as did Monty (who got flattened)

I still rate this as one of the Dog's greatest Finals

One where the players were young and still had total belief in Rocket, perhaps even over performed.

If we had have still had that player belief and willingness in the coach/cause in 2009 we might have cracked through.

He has played in two grand finals yeah cant be to much of a hack to do that
You know what strength and weakness he has when you get him

With Libba Jnr Wallis Jnr Cross Boyd and picken we lack pace something Ray can give

A pick 40 something in a weak draft would be ok

So according to some on here , F Ray is a good player that could help with the midfield depth.. Yet we traded him 3 years ago and he never consolidated his position in St.kilda's midfield after all that time...

So what makes him great now, besides being another fringe player that we shouldnt be wasting a pick on?

Are we forgetting that it was Farren Ray's horrible disposal that had most supporter's eyes out on stalks and wanting to get rid of him? Farren had some upside at the Dogs but, let's face it, he couldn't hit the proverbial barn door with a kick inside 50.

I would say he did consolidate his spot in their midfield rotation. He is 26 or so, and played 150 games. Was in their team all/most of the time, running through the midfield, usually with a specific role. He definitely improved from when he was with us.

But obviously, his downside is he sometimes shits himself with the ball. But going for the ball, his courage can't be questioned.

In what way?
All I've seen from him is the same player playing within a gameplan that maximizes his strengths, which are neither his disposal nor pace. He'd get the ball (he never had trouble doing this), and invariably dish off sideways or kick to Nick, or shit himself. Sideways Ray would not fit in with our team and he'd just hold back younger and potentially better players.

To put it simply, he shits himself less.

I agree with you that the saints gameplan maximizes his strengths. A lot.
He also looks like he has slowed down a bit.

I should also clarify, I would be looking at him for depth, not a straight spot in the team. I would want him to work hard for a spot, and if he did, he would deserve it.

Anyway, wouldn't be disappointed if we didn't get him.
