I thought he showed promising signs but was just a little bit rusty from no having played in the firsts for a year and being new to the back line.

I was much happier with him kicking out than Young, that's for damn sure.

His kicking was highlight. But he flails around defensively a bit. It's something that needs development if he is staying back there. I like the idea of him staying forward for reasons you brought up, we have few that like to hit the scoreboard from beyond 50m, Fasolo is one of them.

The thing is I'm a big fan of the way the Hawks work out around in a curve around 65m out when the opposition floods. Generally they're able to stretch the defense, spread it around and hit up a small target around 40-45m out. If we did that, we'd still fail to score.

Brilliant around goals, most accurate shot on goal we have in the team. One of the best kicks we have, very good in traffic.

That shows where he should play

Unfortunately so. We lack (enough) good ball users in our forward half to do this regularly. I still think we lack depth in the kicking of our forwards outside of Cloke and Reid right now. That is limiting our offensive options from further out as well as hitting up shorter targets.

Those mistakes that he made in not disposing the ball quick enough cost the team 2 goals and in hindsight cost the team the game.

So yeah, nice move Bucks

Serious post? Can't tell anymore.

- Cloke goalless
- Swan missing the side of a barn
- Sidebottom 57 missed targets
- Beams, Ball, Blair etc being ineffective or barely touching the ball
- Macaffer not being anywhere NEAR close enough to Johnson
- Overall skill level from pretty much everyone bar Pendlebury

These are all things that actually cost us the game. This loss was completely player related. Had zero to do with Buckley.

He is coming back form a long lay off and should get better every game.
He has obvious class just lacks a bit of leg speed.
I like him forward of the ball myself and he goes alright in spells in the midfield but, his kicking could be a real weapon if he can develop his back half game.

With all these things going wrong (plus all the injuries) its a massive plus for the team to have been within a kick of winning with a few minutes left on the clock.

Although I do think youre being extremely harsh on Maccaffer.

I don't like him as a defender, but that said we are missing Sinclair and Marley Williams so it may be out of necessity.

Also, down back he will at least be able to run up some fitness and get involved. Up forward, with little or poor supply, it is hard to get confidence and touch back. I think this is an experiment from Buckley to get him match fit again and also teach him some accountability.

It also is necessary considering none of our defenders are really quality ball users, so this addresses that issue.

This is why I said I don't think coachign was the issue. This loss was 100% player driven.

As to Macaffer, I thought SJ got way too many crucial touches in that realistically he should never have been able to with a hard tag on. See Guthrie's game on Pendlebury for reference.

Stevie got some real cheap free kicks in the first quarter that helped.

In case you haven't noticed either , we have a shortage of personnel in attack too with only Cloke and Elliott.

Play him where he is most effective .

He wouldnt be effective in starvation corner if the backs and mids get beaten. Needs to be positioned, temporarilly at least, where we have players missing. We dont have players missing up forward apart from Reid.

Their entire side got cheap frees.

Everyone is going on about "they're letting everything go". Collingwood supporters don't get excited because they've been letting our frees go for years. We're used to it. I've seen people jailed for less than what they were doing to Cloke on Saturday night.

Hence why its so important to get Reid back. Will be much harder for the opposition to maul Cloke (legally or illegally) with a three pronged tall attack.

His best Position is Up Forward
We don't exactly have the luxury of anyone to replace him down back.

Its ridiculous. Bucks goes and does something about it and people chuck hissy fits.

You sign Armstrong. People criticize.
You play Sidebottom down back. People criticise.

You play Fasolo down back. People criticise.

People need to look at the bigger picture here.

Well I say that Bucks would try Armstrong Down Back or Even Yagmoor:eek:

People start threads entitled, "please try something new Nathan Buckley"

Maccaffer was excellent on Johnson, other then the free kicks Johnson's impact was minimal compared to most weeks.

Thought Faz had a reasonable game considering just needs to settle into his new role his kicking was a plus.

He wasn't great you could see that he wanted to hit a target every time and he took his time to find them and a few times it cost us. He will soon learn sometimes as a back man you just have to kick it long close to the boundary and hope it doesn't come back over your head. He wasn't a total failure and you can see he has potential in the back line to be the zone breaker we need.
