Fast talking Demons slump to second successive loss

Round 9's MOTR saw the Demons travelling to Dragon Island to take on the rampant Southern Dragons who sat a game clear in second place on the ladder. The Demons were celebrating two 50 game milestones from club stalwarts and made sure everyone in the SFA world heard about it during the week. Everywhere Dragon residents turned they would be reminded of the milestones and met with additional comments about their chances - or more accurately, lack of a chance - in the MOTR. The Dragons on the other hand, preferred to keep quiet and not match the trash talk from the opposition.
The beginning of the match had all the signs of a shootout, as the first quarter was split at 5 goals each. However there were distinct signs of a lack of defensive pressure from the Demons, who were playing like millionaires. It started to become more evident as the second quarter rolled on, with the Dragons adding an extra 7 goals in the second to stretch their lead out to 20 points at the half.
Observers pointed out that the Demons weren't getting back to help out their backmen, and this had resulted in Pie4Life giving Cooney a football lesson in the first half. However, in a surprising move, the third quarter saw more of the same, as the Demons complete refusal to apply any defensive pressure saw the margin stretch to 29 points at the final change. With two milestones to play for, observers again thought that the Demons would hit back hard. But instead the Dragon faithful saw their best quarter of the season, as relentless running in waves saw an 8 goal to 2 quarter. The end result was a 69 point victory to the Dragons, and captain LJP had this to say after the match;
Well, well, well, all the shit talking from the loud-mouth Demons certianly backfired didn't it? Next time they want to start running their mouths they should probably check their opponents because we are quality. They, on the other hand are a very average team who talk all day to hide the fact that they'll struggle to make the finals, which is a fair effort considering only 3 out of the 8 teams will miss.
A reporter attempted to talk to anyone from the Demons camp, but their response was so long it couldn't be edited down enough to make it to print before deadline. Perhaps next week.
