Fast talking Demons slump to second successive loss
Ivana Kutchukokoff
Herald Sun; 8th June, 12:00p.m.

Round 9's MOTR saw the Demons travelling to Dragon Island to take on the rampant Southern Dragons who sat a game clear in second place on the ladder. The Demons were celebrating two 50 game milestones from club stalwarts and made sure everyone in the SFA world heard about it during the week. Everywhere Dragon residents turned they would be reminded of the milestones and met with additional comments about their chances - or more accurately, lack of a chance - in the MOTR. The Dragons on the other hand, preferred to keep quiet and not match the trash talk from the opposition.

The beginning of the match had all the signs of a shootout, as the first quarter was split at 5 goals each. However there were distinct signs of a lack of defensive pressure from the Demons, who were playing like millionaires. It started to become more evident as the second quarter rolled on, with the Dragons adding an extra 7 goals in the second to stretch their lead out to 20 points at the half.

Observers pointed out that the Demons weren't getting back to help out their backmen, and this had resulted in Pie4Life giving Cooney a football lesson in the first half. However, in a surprising move, the third quarter saw more of the same, as the Demons complete refusal to apply any defensive pressure saw the margin stretch to 29 points at the final change. With two milestones to play for, observers again thought that the Demons would hit back hard. But instead the Dragon faithful saw their best quarter of the season, as relentless running in waves saw an 8 goal to 2 quarter. The end result was a 69 point victory to the Dragons, and captain LJP had this to say after the match;

Well, well, well, all the shit talking from the loud-mouth Demons certianly backfired didn't it? Next time they want to start running their mouths they should probably check their opponents because we are quality. They, on the other hand are a very average team who talk all day to hide the fact that they'll struggle to make the finals, which is a fair effort considering only 3 out of the 8 teams will miss.

A reporter attempted to talk to anyone from the Demons camp, but their response was so long it couldn't be edited down enough to make it to print before deadline. Perhaps next week.

Looks like the footballing nation is attempting to hide their fear of the Mt Buller juggernaut by writing articles while we are down.

We are the youngest side in the comp. The upside of just raw talent is enormous, the only obstacle facing this side is consistency, and once we cross this, we'll be unstoppable.

Line up now boys, you wont get another chance. :thumbsu:

Just remember to keep it under wraps and back up what is said on the field.

And the talk is set to continue. At the end of the day, the talk is all you can control. When we lost, we were more than happy to congratulate the opposition on the win, and concede that they were better on the day. It is a bit of a cheap shot to come out afterwards, with the benefit of hindsight and say we talked ourselves up too much. At the end of the day, we are the best posting team in the comp, the dragons were nowhere to be seen. Lucky they won the match, because if they didn't, my tip is we wouldn't have heard from them since. But yes, they well and truly took care of us so well done. Don't expect us to stop the trash talk though.

Mate you just wait till i hit some form and get more games into me, then we will see what happens
You have already hit form. That was one bad week. And you can't blame yourself. Defence starts at full forward these days. At least you forced him wide, leading to a lot of behinds. :thumbsu: We know you will bounce back this week.

You are without a doubt the SFA Full Back at this stage mate. Wait until we get a full pre-season into you, you are already the envy of just about the entire competition.

Even Scarlo has a poor game once in a while. :thumbsu:

Its been a flat two weeks for the Demons, but at times our confidence can be percieved as arogance. Regardless of the talk, our club is up, and active. We hope to bounce back this week and back up some of the talk around the club. This is a nothing article IMO and there are more pressing issues that should be discussed. We will be fine, and we will play in finals

Letting a full forward kick 4.6 is good form is it? You truly are an idiot.

So one game makes a season does it knob? :thumbsu:
Now far be it from me to ever say you are full of shit TG but in this case I think I should step in and let the stats talk for themselves.

So far your "gun" recruit has played 4 and a half games at FB. 4 full ones and 3 where he was subbed off and his time at FB in those games equals about a half of footy. In 4.5 games at FB he has conceded on his opponent 19 goals 10 behinds or 29 scoring shots if you will.

So doing the math on average your gun FB concedes 4 goals 2 behinds or 6 scoring shots. (I'll be nice and round down) You consider that to be the stuff guns are made of? Go Dees.

Oh F*** off mate you wait and see what this team can do
This team that you refer to seems content to label their very average FB a gun. Go Dees.

For the purpose of the exercise I'll take the question seriously and pretend the Demons may one day become relevant (I know bit of a stretch of the imagination).

The answer Cooney is: Yep.
