Generally if somebody is fat or obese due to pure laziness that's just sad, or they make up excuses as to reasons why they can't cook a healthy meal or exercise. I don't buy it not for a second. The "I'am too busy" is bullshit.

I think it comes down to education not just young people, but adults alike can make informed decisions on what they put in their mouth, as a society It shows we value comfort so much that we are now the 3th/4th fattest country in the world.. seriously.

People are literally and figuratively full of shit.

Whatever happened to going 'I'm getting fat, maybe I should do something about my diet and lifestyle'?

it's a vicious cycle really

the shit food lack of exercise and shit sleeping habits make you feel tired which means the extra effort of shopping healthy and preparing proper meals, not to mention getting off the couch and going for a walk seem just too hard

not to mention supermarkets are designed to get you to buy as much of the packaged stuff as possible

add to that when you do start trying to do something you usually feel worse before you feel better, and people are often very black and white on the whole eating healthy, fall over once and they just go all out and quit saying its too hard

education is big, not just for kids but for adults, so many people don't really understand nutrition, I mean what hope do we have when what the doctors and governments say in general is influenced by research paid for by the food industry, or 20 years out of date because they are afraid the newer research is paid for by the food industry........

a lot of the science on nutrition is over 100 years old and assumes a one size fits all for how everybody absorbs nutrients etc

you really can't go wrong with eating more fresh fruits and veggies, less packaged food, more water and less of everything else and not too much meat or no meat

but that's not as fun as junk food and booze so

So true.

I was in the supermarket (name withheld) recently and found myself thinking to myself gees didnt a nutritionist say dont eat anything packaged in a box? I looked at the trolley and found boxes of stuff. It was a little head**** for mine.

I've noticed that people who used to be fat or who have a history of body image issues are a lot more critical and vocal about fat acceptance than people who were never fat to begin with

aaand as much as former fatties - like myself - may want to pretend it's because of some innate extension of concern for some random's health or for the burden on the public healthcare system, the reality is that if obesity is glorified or even drops its negative connotations, it undermines all the effort the former fatty had to put into losing weight

nothing like the prospect of wasted time to prompt ya obligatory facebook meathead car rants

Fruit is overrated. Veggies and lean meat is all you need.
but there isn't anything wrong with eating fruit, just as there isn't anything wrong with not eating meat

and some fruits are a better/easier source for certain nutrients than veggies

people get so restrictive on what whole food you can or can't eat

if your diet is too bland you have issues as well

veggies and lean meat could equate to just eating chicken and potatoes to someone...

How about personal trainers at gyms to assist with weight loss etc? Specifically, ive seen some partially overweight trainers around. If you are thinking of some training, would you utilise one who is "not fit"?
well if your trainer is 24 and skinny and never had to work for it do they know how to help you with it

if they look like they've never exercised or controlled their diet, again do they know how to help you

the problem with both the above statements is you are trying to decide their qualifications based on their appearance

Are frozen veggies healthy? Cause it takes 10 minutes to cook some of those and a steak for dinner.

Less time than going out to get takeaway.

No Im not. Im merely postulating creating a discussion point. You raise some interesting points, got me thinking yeah if someone hasnt experienced certain events can they be qualified? Like a marriage counsellor who is not married.

yeah sorry, I didn't mean you personally were making that decision just that the wording I used sort of leads to that

life experience, vs education, vs both?

In the context of fitness I think both is better as in education and experience in the job, not necessarily experience coming from where I am coming from

I wouldn't want to learn to squat from someone who has never squatted at all but that doesn't mean they have to currently be squatting, or lifting heavier than me to be a good coach, or that squatting heavier than me would make them a good coach

for a lot of things life experience trumps education long term, but if you don't have the foundation of knowledge to understand the topic.....

For me eating fruit is an issue because, as a diabetic, it raises my blood sugar level. And of course I meant a variety of vegetables. Though I stick to mostly green vegetables.

understandable but there are plenty of fruits that as fruit are fine to eat, and better than some vegetables as it relates to blood sugar levels

my point was more that excluding fruit from your diet is a pretty limiting choice and for most people not necessary

That's true. I actually have half a lemon, pulp and all, in a glass of water every morning. I also have blueberries in Greek yoghurt for at night. However I don't think veggies and fruit are equal. You can get all the nutrients in fruit from veggies, without the sugar. That being said, for an obese person, fruit is a much better alternative to junk food.

its always difficult in written form determining the nature and tone of the words, so apology accepted and no harm done.

I limit fruit to myself via poor reactions to the melon family. Sometimes apples make me feel unwell. Pears cause me to fart.

bananas and berries are the only fruit i eat. oh and tomato.
if fruit is presented in the form of a cheesecake....oh yeah!

I just ate a banana when the will to go buy a donut was strong.
