During one game in 1953, Fitzroy's only score for the entire match was a goal, kicked out of mid-air, about two minutes before the final siren.

Which player kicked the goal & which team were we playing against?

Correct.

Alan Baron Ruthven vs Footscray 23 May 1953. Fitzroy's performance was not as bad as it sounds, because half the ground was flooded & Footscray was quite a good side in those days.

Some witnesses claimed the water was more than two feet deep in places & even Teddy Whitten claimed it was literally possible to swim in some areas. He said the Doggies just kept taking the ball over to the outer wing, because they knew Fitzroy had no hope of doing anything from there.
