Tarni Brown
Collingwood has a circle around Brown's name, with father Gavin and brothers Callum and Tyler all having played for the club.

A talented basketballer who only came to football a few years ago, the tenacious midfielder is agile in traffic and a strong ball-winner.

The most talked about prospect in this year’s AFL Women’s Draft from a Collingwood perspective is Tarni Brown. The Eastern Ranges small is looking to follow brothers, Callum and Tyler into the elite level, making it three from three siblings playing at a high enough level they can make it to the top. There have been many iconic photos over the year with their dad Gavin and the trio all decked out in their Collingwood gear, and now next year it looks like it will go from supporter gear to playing attire.
Brown is not dissimilar to her brothers in the style she plays, being such an evasive, slippery player with great speed. She can weave in and out of contests, and as a dual-sport player with basketball, is all too familiar with ankle-breakers leaving her opponent committing to one way as she doubles back and leaves them in her dust. Her athleticism as a whole adds to her natural footballing ability.
She certainly has plenty of natural footballing ability, with her football smarts and vision to spot teammates going forward a handy attribute of the midfielder’s game. Often a winger who has moved more inside in 2020, Brown showed she was more than capable around the stoppages, averaging 24 disposals in her two games this year, whilst still hitting the scoreboard.
While her offensive output is terrific, Brown’s defensive output is just as impressive, being a tackling machine averaging almost five tackles in both her 2019 and 2020 seasons. She can hunt the ball or the ball carrier, and she is anticipated to play at half-forward when she reaches the top level, whilst providing that speed through the midfield rotation. Consistency was always the thing for Brown to develop from last year, and this year, albeit off only a couple of showings, gave an indication she was ready to take her game to the next level.
As someone who is unsurprisingly a Collingwood fan, it is rare when all three siblings can be following the career they love under the one roof, but expect that roof to be the Holden Centre.

Thanks Jen

The pen pictures of the other 25 girls were mouth waterering as is usually the case with these things.

They all seemed to be mids though.
I can see why Abbey Green and 178 cm? Imogen Purcell were recruited.

The club has to formally nominate Tarni on Monday as a father-daughter recruit it is written.
Is the bidding for her similar to the present or the old men's system?
Old as with Darcy Moore being bidded on pre-draft,
or the present in-draft system as with her brothers.

The F/D system is similar to the 2nd generation of the men's F/S system where a bid can be matched with a team's next bid.

So using an extreme example the best player in the draft can be picked up using a 20's pick if a team finishes up the ladder and trades out their first round pick.

Welcome and thanks TTH.

That had seemed to be the system that I had heard alluded to but without me being certain.
It's easier to manage but not as good as the live bidding system imo.

Collingwood has apparently followed your formula with their draft pick management!
Although Tarni isn't quite in the "Big three" category, but I believe from reading that she isn't far behind,
and hence the swap of pick 11 to footscray for 19 and 25 from them.
(Or Vic draft - lose 6 for 12 and 17).

To do this, then Tarni must be seen as almost certainly to have been bidded for in the first 5 Vic picks???!!!

Very exciting for us if true but was it a gamble worth taking by CFC?
Could we have had Tarni and pick 6?

YES,
if a bid wasn't in the first 5.
Is she that good and that likely to attract such a bid?
Remember, we wouldn't lose Tarni if a very early bid came in - just pick 6.

So, we have cashed in by trading Vic pick 6 for picks 12 and 17, even though we might not have had to use 6 for Tarni???!!!
Now, we gain pick 17 (or 12 if a bid after that pick etc) for trading out pick 6.

I would have taken the chance of her not being bid on in the top 5 Vic draft and this would have only seen us NOT gaining pick 17, but with a good chance of keeping pick 6 Vic draft.
(And we have picks 18, 21 and 22 as well to lessen the impact of not gaining 17).

We wouldn't lose Tarni by doing this.

Or perhaps it's just 2 for 1 earlyish picks in an even and "unsighted" draft crop!

How do father-daughter selections work?

Players are able to be claimed if their father had played at least one game for the same club through a nomination and bidding process. If a bid is placed on a father-daughter nominee by a rival club, the first club must match with its next selection after that bid, if it wishes to draft the player. Successful bids will be announced before the draft, with the pick used not to be revealed until draft night. Collingwood and St Kilda are expected to draft Tarni Brown (daughter of Gavin) and Alice Burke (daughter of Nathan) through this process.

How can we make a Pick before the Draft?
We don't. They will use one of their picks to officially pick her up, depending where a bid comes in.

"The draft pick Collingwood will use to select Brown is to be disclosed at the 2020 AFLW national draft next Tuesday, October 6."

What I take from that there Bidding has Already Happened Privately and we won't find out Publicly until the Draft Next Week
