Young Donohue has been nominated by the club under the F/S selection process.
If no-one makes a bid for him we will be ableto secure him with our last selection.

Yeah great stuff for the club, here is a running backman in the making. I hope that no-one goes for him and we can secure him with a low pick.

However we have some big picks to take, Thompson needs to be picked up, along with Grima. It will be interesting to see how we play it and how the club picks these guys up.

Grima's a rookie, so we don't need to use a pick on him. We simply promote him to the list.

I think Thompson might well still be around for the rookie draft, but if we really think he's worth it and want to make sure (?) we might want to take him in 3rd/4th round.

So a small backman? We really need one - I think thats the one thing we miss.

Does anyone have any stats, strengths etc etc on him?

I'm not sure isnt he a pacy-half-back player? I think we would love to have him as he would fit perfectly in our game plan but I have to wonder if other clubs might try and get him because they want to replicate our game plan. It does happen with successful clubs.

182cm, 82kg. Played the bulk of his junior career as a forward, but has since been transformed into a half-back flanker with the Falcons. Bottom-aged this year, but nonetheless made the initial squad of 40 for Vic Country. Really worked hard on the body; cut off alot of puppy fat to certainly look the part of a footballer now, but still is a fairly solid lump of a lad.

His disposal is clean, play-reading is great off the half back, moves well, a footy-smart kid.

Averaged around 19 disposals, 6 marks, 2 tackles, and close to 5 handball receives a game. Booted 11 goals from 16 games, and named in the Falcons' best 6 times during the season.

So he isnt a shut down small defender, but more of a Wojac running type? Is that correct?
His offensive capabilities outweigh his defensive ones at the moment, yes. But in saying that, Wojcinski in't exactly a suitable comparison (before anyone gets started there).

from what i've heard he's more of the Luke Hodge mold rather than Wojak as he is more of a quarterback rather than a get the ball and run as fast as i can type player. Obviously we cant expect him to become Hodgev2 but he plays a similar role across HBF that Hodge does.

From what I understand, he was told of the club's intentions awhile back.

3rd/4th Rounder is about the right value for him, taking into account what he's shown to date, his upside (bottom-aged this year), and the history connection factor.

Almost fitting that with 'Fresh' leaving, 'Buck' takes his place as small, running flanker with F/S connections.
G , just what are those intentions. Would yo know if they have told him , they will take , no matter what or only take him with certain picks?

He is probably the ideal FS fro us to try the new system on. Didn't make the U18 Champs final side yet has performed reasonably in the TAC.
I just wonder what the reaction of a couple clubs will be? Something like "F***ing Geelong , another Father Son. He worth bidding for because Geelong want him"

Generally, just the club's intentions of picking him up under the ruling. Personally, I'm not sure how in depth their promises were (ie we'll only commit up till the X Round etc)

If the draft recruiters were BigFooty posters, maybe. But I think it's fair to assume they're professional enough to draft according to their respective club's needs and opinions of the lad. They won't throw away committed picks for nothing.

Just pulling a quote out from the Addy today:

Donohue, 17, averaged just under 19 disposals a game in his 16 appearances with the Falcons this season, playing in several positions around the midfield.

Geelong national recruiting manager Stephen Wells said the Cats had kept a close eye on Donohue's progress over the past 12 months.

"Adam spent a little bit of time doing testing with our VFL squad and he's got a lot of improvement left in him," Wells said of Donohue.

"The boy's got some fantastic kicking skills and we feel that if he got into our program, we think that he can develop well with us as a forward-flanker or midfield player."

"It will be interesting to see if any bidding does occur. If it does, then we'll reassess our position."
Two interesting points were the admission (insinuated, more than anything) that the club had a commitment threshold (I'd guess somewhere from the 3rd Round or so), and Wells' initial thoughts on the lad's future at the club - as a forward-flanker or midfielder.

He certainly wouldn't be out of place up forward, having spent much of his junior days there, but I'm not sure how he'd fit into the depth charts at the moment.

Hmm. Not sure if we do really need another one of those. Gamble would have that covered I would have thought.

Was really looking forward to him as a defender. I think the one thing we lack is a quality small defender.

Nobody else put in a bid for him so we have him.:)

Essendon had to give up round 2 for Daniher because north offered a 2nd round for him.

Barham was unapposed, the same as Adam.
