Good. Means we'll get them nice and cheap.

From a draft perspective though until any of them announce themselves with a big game or three at TAC Cup level at the very least, I see no particular reason to keep a particularly special eye out for any of them.
Kappa so you are saying Richardson is a Hack and woNt mAke it?

All I am saying is there is a reason for that. The club is keeping him under raps

KM, I appreciate your cool dispassionate approach to draft watching, but the fact that these boys are 'sons of guns' doesn't stir you just a little? Your analysis is always first rate and much appreciated, and it is fascinating to observe your ability to remain detached when 'our' kids are coming through. You did the same with Darcy Moore, and refused to get caught up in the hype, especially (IIRC) when he had a poor year leading up to the draft, due to returning from injury(?). I acknowledge the detached approach is necessary to make balanced calls and judgments.

I'm with Knightmare on this one. We have to always recruit on merit.
I back the clubs judgement when it comes to player development. He is not going to learn much at all playing rep under 16s even 17s. The exposure to an AFL club will be more beneficial that is why the AFL academy tries to mimic that environmentDunno about the wisdom of the club doing that.
You can't just take a 15 year old kid, hide him under a rock for three of his formative years, and then expect him to be magically revealed as a gun at age 18. People don't work that way.
Josh is ours if we want him.
We can even pick him up for a 20% discount (discount on draft points).
Surely the development he would get by playing footy with/against other kids at the top level would far far outweigh any risks associated with other recruiters sniffing around him.
He will go in more than twice a year. 16s you hardly train at all, you have two lots of games one at the start of the end of the year and train for 6 weeks before your gamesAt Rep Footy he would be training twice a week with fantastic coaches plus playing against elite opponents every weekend to develop his own game.
Does he get the same development from the "in house" method at Collingwood? My understanding he is he only trained at the club a couple of times a year..

well actually we doWho needs first round draft picks when you have these father sons coming through...
because of the new draft systemI don't buy it. If the club was keeping him under wraps, he wouldn't be playing for the Chargers this year. If he is such a gun, 1 season in TAC is all it would take to shoot up draft calculations, the same way that happened with Oliver last year. All I am saying is there is a reason for that. Maybe you should do some more research on the new system, because we 100% don't.well actually we dobecause of the new draft system
Dunno about the wisdom of the club doing that.

He comes in more than just on school holidays, he will be a magpie at the years endI don't buy it. If the club was keeping him under wraps, he wouldn't be playing for the Chargers this year. As for developing him in house, the Daicos academy only runs during school holidays doesn't it? So what, a couple of weeks every few months? Seems like a poor substitute for playing and training week in week out with your peers in an elite competition.
It's not like he is not playing any football, playing school footy was enough for Seir. The tac cup isn't the be all and end allMe too
It was the explanation I was questioning.
Disagree with that. Plenty of kids seem to do alright coming through the standard system.
And just playing footy, learning about his body, being exposed to different kids has to be a good thing
The club can teach him about diet and training and weights and strategies and fine tuning skills.
What the club's academy can't provide is one vitally important ingredient ... Playing games of footy.
i'm well aware in principle of the process however it's to my understanding that is going to be stopped this coming draft. unless you know something different please share kindly ? http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-08-12/afl-closes-draft-bidding-system-loopholeMaybe you should do some more research on the new system, because we 100% don't.
Why do you think GWS traded away all their first round picks for multiple picks later in the draft last year? It's all about the points now. Pick numbers are irrelevant.
I know 76. My head agrees, but my heart...I'm one of the Daicos generation, who saw the man play almost on a weekly basis. It's hard to shake off the romance of another Daicos in black and white.
Point me to what I'm missing, but there's nothing there yet says we will require a first round pick if one of our FS prospects go early.i'm well aware in principle of the process however it's to my understanding that is going to be stopped this coming draft. unless you know something different please share kindly ? http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-08-12/afl-closes-draft-bidding-system-loophole
Worst Dave impression ***ever***![]()

I appreciate the romance of the sons coming through as much as anybody - maintaining the bonds of tradition.
But I also appreciate creating new traditions. For example - if we had the choice back in 2001 of using our Hail Mary pick 58 on some son of a 70's / 80's hero ... Or on Dane Swan ... Pretty sure 100% of today's membership would vote one way on that.
Darcy, Heath and Rhyce have all been good stories, but their recruitment was justified on merit. Plus it'd take a special type of kid to handle the pressure that comes with that. Imagine every club function the kid turns up to, or every media interview ... getting bombarded with stories about their dad, and comparisons with their dad, or questions about their dad. I am enormously proud of my own dad, I truly am, but I couldn't imagine anything worse than what those kids must endure!!!
Josh Daicos ... FFS, No Pressure!!!![]()
Yes, the same thing happened with Jake Kelly. But the fathers of Stewart and even Kelly are not really revered figures at Collingwood like the fathers of young Daicos and Brown. Hine's excellent reputation would be seriously damaged if those lads weren't taken, and they ended up starring for another club. I doubt that he would take such a risk, so as long as they show even reasonable form this year, I fully expect them to be on our list next year.Hine shows he does not Care about who where a Kids Father was. Just see why, with him passing on James Stewart

Indeed! Still, there was probably no way they weren't taking a Silvagni, no matter who was in charge of recruiting (as long as he had shown reasonable ability, of course). Having a third generation player at Carlton is a rare good news story for them.Over at Carlton they allow a father to recruit his son.
Craig Kelly was certainly a very successful and no doubt well regarded player for the club, but Brown and Daicos are considered two of Collingwood's all-time great players. It will be very hard watching young Weideman play for Melbourne, especially if he becomes a star, but at least we had no claim on him. Passing up an opportunity to take sons of legends when they're ours for the taking would be a massive risk.Craig Kelly sure is but I did not see James Stewart Dad Play as I was not Born Yet
