They included that in their previous ruling, that you should have made efforts to renounce it. Hanson is questioning what effort Payman had made. The same Hanson who would no doubt be going full-bore at Sen Payman if Payman had addressed anything to the Taliban as a polite way of renouncing her citizenship.

Im quite sure the High Court would look at the efforts made and agree. My point is more you cant say "see this is legal" based on the say-so of a lawyer.

That said, Hanson was obviously trolling as she is within her rights to petition the Court to investigate - as has been done a number of times over the years.

The Greens is pretty much the only one to have survived and grown. I would say that's because they're not a single-issue party and occupy a part of the spectrum once occupied by Labor.

Single-issue parties, or those perceived to be single-issue, are sentenced to death when that issue isn't making headlines anymore.
And yet, a lot of people in the media seem very angry at the Greens for not being a single-issue party and want them to go back to just caring about the environment only. Gee, I wonder why.

The High Court makes these decisions, not politicians and their lawyers. Technically she is a citizen of 2 countries so would not be eligible. However, one of those countries isnt really a country and doesnt really have a government or any way for someone to contact and relinquish their citizenship, so who knows. But it is something which the High Court should hear and decide on.

If the High Court needs to hear and decide on the case, then it just needs someone to go through the process and refer it to them. Instead of political grand-standing and creating a false sense of something being wrong or covered it up.

Pauline is within her rights to refer it to the High Court, and they would almost certainly rule in Payman's favour. And everyone has a right to criticise Pauline for referring the case despite no legal advice that there is an issue and effectively as a stunt.

If you think there's a case to be heard... you also have the right to refer it.

Absolutely. But also, when this all first started years ago politicians were referring themselves. If Payman really has no issue why doesnt she write a one-pager and get it ended.

She likely wants the attention as much as Hanson does.

It really does suit both of them to argue with each other about it, rather than just resolve the issue like adults.

Sounds about right.
You wonder how many votes she will get with her party?
Not enough to continue in parliament. You can see it coming a mile away. At least Lidia Thorpe knows she won't get the requisite votes and isn't pretending she has a hope of staying on. Payman still seems to be under the delusion that she does have a hope. She should have called her party some derivative of Labor and hoped to siphon away votes like the DLP and Libertarians do.

Announced a new party and it's name today.

A little confusing as it's name will be associated with the failed referendum even when she claims there are no links to it.

No policies yet named but given her open criticism of Labor's Palestine stance it a safe bet that it will fully support Palestine statehood.

An interesting space to watch.
Yeah I can tell Fatima and her party won't win too many people.

Clive Palmer has a better chance to gain votes

It's weird timing that on the imminent calling of a federal election, the leader of a new Australian party would be focussed on stating how great Iran is.

You would think she would be concentrating on domestic issues that might engage the electorate.

So... How many people voted for her party?
Not many it seems.

I vote BTL in the Senate and number every box. After reading their policies I actually had them higher than I initially thought I would - they seemed kind of like Labor used to be, with policies that would actually shake things up a bit. Of course the reality could well have been different from the brochure, but well they are all like that.

0.73%. More than some more established minors like Christians, Libertarians, Sustainable Australia and Shooters Farmers Fishers.

She’ll be a one hit wonder and out of Parliament in 3 years

She was easily above all of those groups for me. There was one box of ungrouped candidates who I failed to unearth anything about and I reckon I nearly had them in the top half. Worth it to number every box and crown your own equivalent of the NFL draft's Mr Irrelevant (Bernie Finn for what it's worth).

Pretty sure Thorpe has said she’s not decongesting, which is fair - like her or not, she seems to be making the stances she believes in regardless of whether they’re vote winners or not, which I can respect as a strategy.

Payman unfortunately seems to have minimal political nous - she had a substantial amount of political goodwill from the Left for her stand and how the ALP treated her. But she essentially pissed that up against the wall - a terrible party name, saying that they were centrist etc. I had them in the upper section of the ballot (opposing a genocide is more than a lot of other parties) but she’s definitely wasted her shot.

Got all her advice from yesterday's man Glenn Druery... who it seems only specialised in gaming the system before it got reformed, rather than any genuine political intuition.
