Cameron Faulkner, selected by the Western Bulldogs with the No.17 pick in last year’s National AFL Draft, is in line for his first senior chance when the Dogs travel to Nurioopta – in South Australia’s Barossa Valley - to tackle Port Adelaide on Saturday.
Faulkner will return to his native South Australia with the Bulldogs after impressing with Werribee.
“We will take young Cam Faulkner to play,” Bulldogs coach Peter Rohde confirmed.
“He played very well for Werribee and I think we would like to give him a go. I don’t think we will be trialing too many more. We have a lot of younger players in the team and I don’t think we need to worry about injecting too much youth. We are excited by some of the things Cam has been doing and playing 24 players we can afford to take one or two young players and give them experience.”
The Bulldogs are likely to include captain Chris Grant, but Simon Garlick remains in doubt after taking a heavy knock to the ribs last Sunday against Geelong.
“Garlo has bruised ribs, they are not broken,” Rohde said.
“It’s just a matter of how he goes. He’ll run around today and we will make a call on him tomorrow. It’s probably not the time of the year to take too many risks with people like that. Granty ran yesterday and kicked and he will train today and we have no problems with Granty coming up.”
