Have you guys seen the BBC "sounds of the 60's, 70's and 80's" series', on SBS it's the 80's at the moment, very funny seeing the old stuff especially 80's. Tonight at 7:30 they've got Echo and the Bunnymen, REM (Hope they do Orange Crush), the Cure, Jesus and Mary Chain and the Smith's. Should be a hoot.
Being a deprived country teenager I never saw much of the indie scene, only had Countdown as a worthwhile music medium. My faves were U2(huge fan of the Irish lads), Sting/the Police, Sade, Boom Crash Opera (remember them), INXS and Crowded House.
Must say though that "Streets of your town" -Go Betweens is an all time Aussie classic. Shinners remember that cover of "Bizarre Love triangle" Frente did? I thought it was sensational.
I must be getting old too as most of the new stuff is crap, if I see another freakin manufactured Girl or Boy band I'll puke. Still I really like Powderfinger, Rage against the Machine (love their latest video "no money was harmed in this video"), Korn, Massive Attack (I know there old but I just discovered "unfinished sympathy" last year, what brilliant song) and some rave stuff.
Cheers.
