**** Judd. I never had a huge love for that guy. Only an imbecile would deny how ridiculously talented he was, but i never really warmed to him.

I think i never saw him as part of the team, more like someone who plays for himself, an outsider, and wasn't surprised by his defection to Carlton.
That's sort of how I saw him. I always thought (without knowing of course) that he was the complete opposite of some our stars, just played footy and that was it, never saw him out and about with other boys in those days when we used to see the "party boys" everywhere. I was really suprised to see that Kerr was in his bridal party, never thought they would be great mates.

I was also a little dissapointed with his reaction after the 06 flag. I know it's been spoken of before, and explained, the releif etc, but he just never seemed to bleed blue and gold like many of our other players.

Stevan Jackson
Troy Wilson
Peter Matera
Q-Stick
Paul Simmons (used to play against him in juniors)
Jacko
Cuz
Nic Nat

Out of all of the above Cuz was my ultimate favourite. Such a legend of a player. I was gutted when he retired. Nic Nat put excitement back into footy when Cuz retired. This year I'm hoping Adamson will turn into something special. :)
I used to like Stevan Jackson as well.

so who do you rate as your greatest?
I am genuinely surprised and wonder who you might choose.
Jakovich?
Kerr?
I am genuinely surprised that you are surprised, for a start Judd played about 135 games for Westcoast half of Jakovich or Cox. So in my eyes they are both greater West Coasters than Judd, but in my opinion Cousins is the greatest.

wow!
I lived in WA when they all played, except for the last 2 years of Cox's career.
In my opinion, Cousins was a great midfielder whose career was benefitted by having Judd there to burst out of the middle, with two taggers hanging off him while Cousins was left to run around pretty much left alone.
I don't think Judd would have been any less of a player if Cousins wasn't there, but if Judd was not there, Cousins would most certainly have been a great player, but would not have reached the heights he did.
In terms of longevity, I get it, but Judd's 135 or so superlative games for your club will be hard to match.
Cox was a great player for your club, but Judd was the best player in the comp when he was at your club.
I get the feeling that lots of West Coast fans are bitter about Judd leaving and treat him with less respect than he deserves.
You certainly picked up a fantastic player in Kennedy for the trade (one of 6 current A grade key forwards in the league IMO), but wasted pick 3 on Masten.
Yes, he has improved, but surely if the club had their time again, they'd choose almost anybody else.
This stuffup has caused the bitterness, leading to some of your fans booing Judd, yet cheering for Cousins!!!
Cousins was a big part of the issues your club had, & hopefully has overcome, yet he is treated by many as the prodigal son.
And that, is why I think many (mistakenly IMO) rate Cousins higher than Judd
But then again, I don't reckon I'll get any likes for this post & will even attract some negative responses.

1. Judd benefitted in his early days by having the tagger going to Cousins. No denying he was unbelievable but would have won a brownlow in his third year without Cousins getting the tag each week and it going to him. Doubtful. Cousins was phenomenal from the get go. You are seriously under estimating him. He carried that midfield and team for a good 4-5 years before Judd arrived.

2. IIRC Colbert was booed by the Kangas and he wasn't a premiership captain. Judd was. Not only that it has nothing to do with picking Masten. It's more so a premiership captain left us when we were at our lowest. Remember the whole drug saga. Well the captain of the boat left a sinking ship... and footy still is a tribal game. It hurts. I'd be very surprised if Griffin isn't booed by the Dogs fans this year.
That said time heals things and I hope we give him a lap of honour when he retires.

3. Cousins out and out loved the club. He invented the term spiritual leader that Hodge now bears. He had a loveable personality and relationship with the media, unlike Judd writing articles about political and current issues when people just wanted to hear about football. As good as Judd was he never looked like he loved the club. He very well may of but to the public it didn't seem that way.

I love your passion, but Worsfold was your best captain by a long, long way. Cousins a leader like Worsfold?
not even close.
John changed his body and game to become an enforcer instead of the Luke Parker/ Jack Ziebell styled, very hard at it midfielder.
You guys needed steel in the backline & he provided it.
Then when he coached he won a flag with a magnificent midfield & not much else.
Nahhh! for mine Woosha was your spiritual leader, not the narcissistic addict with little regard for others.
Cousins was an excellent outside mid from the get go, but was the team really any good until Judd arrived? I didn't think so.
Judd could well have left because of the festering mess your club was in in those days, despite him trying to get them to do the right thing (going by rumours which were probably 5th hand)
I sincerely hope the west coast fans give Juddy the recognition he desererves at some stage.
if you guys were smart you'd do everything to show respect to your greatest player as he has sons who can either choose you or the blues.
As for my team, Griffin deserves to be booed by the dogs & he came to my club, & I don't like him, but every circumstance is different. The Dogs are a team, possibly on the rise and without a cancer infecting their club.
Judd needed to leave a poisoned culture. He was ready to start a family & despite his efforts your very successful club, was fractured.
Look, we may well have to stay on opposite sides of the Judd vs 'seagull, scumbag, team destroyer' benny
sorry, wanted to get a final shot in.
good luck to your team for 2015 :thumbsu:

No mate, sorry, but a true captain that cares stays to right a sinking ship if that's what the situation is, they don't bail because things get tough, with their balls trading places between their mum & their girlfriends purse. Judd was a great footballer, but when the team was 60 points down against Geelong or Carlton, it was Cuz who inspired and led a lot of those comebacks to win games. It's the fact that Cuz ran so hard til he puked to get his team over the line, that endeared him to West Coast fans. Despite his flaws as a person, as a footballer he was hard to surpass with his heart, his skills and his work rate and love for the club. You will find it hard to change a lot of people's opinions about it, because Cuz means a lot to a lot of people.

Take the drug addiction which is a health condition out of it. No one is bringing up Worsfold here. What I am saying is that Cousins was the spiritual leader of that team. Not the whole club during it's existence.
The club wasn't good until Cox & Glass matured. Theres many other factors too. In fact we didn't make a Grand final with that team until Stenglein arrived.
How is Griffins departure different to Judds. Both blind sided the club and their fans.

Off the top of my head

Cuz - Questionable morals etc but without a doubt the player who defines our club. Never gave up even when all seemed lost...Like that game against the Cats in 06 at Skilled Stadium when we were down by 50 points
Kerr - Toughest nutter to ever play the game in recent history. I wouldn't wanna meet a drugged up or boozed up Kerr in a dark alley late @ night that's for sure
Jako - The player who defined our club prior to Cuz, also a fellow Croatian Australian like myself
Sampi - A real character
Mcdougall - Good for a laugh. Would slot in nicely with our current weak as piss pretty-boy side
Embers - All round great guy who was gonna end up like Cuz but changed his lifestyle for the better
Big Cox - Nuff said

I stopped reading about two lines in.
Cousins was a super star for half a decade before Judd was even drafted

Josh Wooden - Fastest Man Alive
Kempy - The Real Star
I remember when Wooden tagged Aker right out of a game, the first time I could recall it happening.
The next time we played Brisbane, Aker had 30 and 3 and got some sweet revenge.

Apart from that, my main memory of Wooden was when I saw him reading a Womans Day magazine in a supermarket. Hahaha.

I think you'll find you have plenty of support from a lot of Carlton fans who feel he hasn't been part of the Blues culture. Many have stated they would rather have kept Kennedy and the draft picks they gave up.

Kemp - My favourite of all time.
Judd - Was devastated when he left, the prick.
Spangher - I was first on that bandwagon.
Shuey/Darling/NicNat - Those three are the three I like the most out of the current team.
