Horror
Dario Argento for his brilliant horror flicks, especially Suspiria and the remarkable use of music with the band Goblin. George A Romero with the Zombie humour/political satire and frights. Really like the recent "Diary Of The Dead" and the use of various filming tools, mixing it up with internet technology, at the same time connecting back to his roots.

Western
Sergio Leone - Once Upon A Time In The West, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, Fistful Of Dollars etc.. Sam Fuller (Shock Corridor) and Sam Peckinpah(Wild Bunch, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid ).

Sophia Coppola's movies too. Not sure what category, just like her style.
Clint Eastwood's made some cracking films to equal his great acting career.

Suspense
Alfred Hitchcock. All his movies are worth watching, has inspired many directors.

I'll add Miami Vice, I've grown to love it.

And Public Enemies looks very exciting.

It was between Kubrick, Scorcese and Tarantino for me. Scorcese won my vote though. It's too hard to pick one, there are plenty of awesome directors out there in many genres.

Clint Eastwood.

The range, diversity and quality of his films over many years is unrivaled.

Easily the best movie maker on the planet today... the man is a genius.
