Some very good suggestions... keep them coming.

I had a game at devilbend the other day... it was ok. I think it would be much, much better with extra water, as much of the course is based around water hazards. But not a bad course layout and low cost.

Brown Bottle thanks, they didn't have to necessarily be in order but its fine either way. Going by your list (which i haven't played a single on you mentioned but plan to go to the Dunes and Moonah Links in the very near future.

Going by your list it sounds like WA is the place to be for great golf courses.

Rich River (Echuca/Moama) but ive hardly played anywhere good.

Spalding Park, here in Geraldton, is my home course and it's a nice course. During Summer, the wind is a big factor and has brought many good golfers undone(I'm an exception......I'm not that good a golfer). Most days the breeze can exceed 30knots.
There was one day when there was a strong Easterly,( our course plays North/South) and it was very difficult just keeping on the fairway. Many a good shot went to another fairway.
Right now, Autumn, it is playing beautifully as there is very little wind and the fairways have been verticut and as a result, there is more bounce.
It has tough underbrush, so going in there is a no no, plus the loose sand makes it harder to play. Some of the bunkers are fairly deep also and I have seen low handicapers struggle in them.

I have played quite a few public courses(mostly in Victoria) and I would have to rates Spalding Park as one of the best.

i work at Metropolitan golf club, and the coarse at the moment is in great nic and would have to be one of my fav coarses, it has one of the hardest par 3 in victoria, if u get a chance play there!!!!

Joondalup in WA i have heard is an absolute pearler. Will struggle to find a tougher course than Barnbougle Dunes in Tassie. Fantastic.

Also, Claremont in Tassie is a ripper of a public course!

oakleigh would be near the bottom and far from royal. elsternwick + brighton dead bottom

7th aint uphill at all......... its as flat as a shitcarters hat, bunkers surround it left and right - long agreed, but 215 must be from the extreme back marker !!!

Narooma on the Southern NSW Coast is a great golf course.
Have also played St Andrews in a gale and that is a test of golf. Hitting driver to 180m par three into the teeth of wind.
Anyone visiting Geelong should check out Clifton Springs. Bit rough at the moment cause of drought but its a good test when the wind picks up.

Worst course I ever played was somewhere in Essex in England. It was like a farm paddock with a few flags stuck in it. Included a 160m par three in which the green was obscured by a 10 foot hedge. Worst golf hole i ever saw. Also it was so cold and wet that I couldn't make a full swing cause i couldn't grip the club tightly enough.

My favourite course is probably Metropolitan. Good design and I always enjoyed playing there. I lived around the corner from East Malvern and that was a decent course just to have a casual hit. I played my first game of golf at Wattle Park. It's an average 9 hole course but it was my first, so that counts for something.
We had a holiday house in Rosebud and I like most of the courses on the Mornington Peninsula. Rosebud Park is a good course, especially the 1st hole with a slightly elevated tee hitting straight down the hill. The Dunes is another favourite.
At the moment I'm still scouting out potential clubs to join in Sydney. Monash Country Club looks pretty good. When we lived in Sydney 12 years ago, dad always use to make the trip up to Riverside Oaks and he enjoyed that course.

My parents have a beach house down on the Peninsula, so I love all those courses down there like Rosebud public and private, Eagle Ridge, devil bend as well as Moonah Links, Cape Schanck and the National. Do you get out much AG?

I play all my golf at public courses in the Eastern suburbs. Ringwood, Dorset, Morack, Waterford and Waverly mostly.

At least once a fortnight. I try and get to the driving range most weeks because I enjoy working on my swing.
Moonah is one I wish I had played, it looks good.
