national moonah this morning. if time permits will try to get onto the ocean course afterwards

just my peronal opinion but i think st andrews beach is better than the national, its the best course i have ever played & prob the hardest as well i love it.

i did buy that Eynesbury on scoopons also i have 1 up my sleeve for cranbourne off "group ons"

also get on www.greatrounds.com they have deals from all over australia. but not just cheap rounds you often get a box off balls with it or a dinner voucher as well.

im biased of course and believe the National is the bees knees. from the driving range (free balls!!!111), 3 large putting greens, 2 chipping areas to the awesome clubhouse. i bar up everytime i enter the place.

greens are immaculate, marshalls and staff know every members name and people there are nice and polite.

havent played st andrews for ages, would like to get there if time permits. i should play other courses i guess, its a sensible thing to do but hard given membership is paid up. heard fantastic things about the place.

We are so lucky to have so many great courses in victoria.

Played up at Nhill yesterday, in the far far north west of Victoria. The course is in great nick considering how hot and dry the area generally is. Love the layout, although was a bit slow getting going due to a 12 hour drinking session the afternoon/night before.

One thing that did shock us - we got there at around 10am to play 9, as it was mid 30s and very very windy. The course was very quiet, however when we were finishing the members were rolling up to play there saturday comp in the afternoon, in the hottest part of the day!

I have played 51 of these and there are some head scratching inclusions and exclusions on the list.. Royal qld for example should be ranked around 70 at best. The course has been butchered beyond belief with the latest redesign.
For what it's worth metropolitan is my favorite course in Australia and yes I have played rm west, kingston Heath, barnbougle etc
Can I ask what you're basing your course assessments on? If you view it in terms of quality of design/architectural merit of the holes there is no way you could justify that Metropolitan is within a bulls roar of RM West.

Seriously have a hit at DevilBend down the peninsula. In awesome condition (expect first green is getting replaced). Fairways are lovely and the greens are cut solidly.

I've played 17 of the top 100. I reckon half of them didn't exist when my game was of a reasonable standard. For example, when the Mornington Peninsula was in my Pennant zone, there was only Portsea, Sorrento, Flinders and Rosebud down that way.

what you think of Rosebud Fred?

Have played the front 9 before but I'm looking forward to crushing a few balls around tomorrow on the whole course. Should be a great day for it.

Are you playing all 36 holes there tomorrow? Some of the best golf holes on the Peninsula at Rosy Country. Most of them are near the clubhouse and up the hill, though. The ones out in the open, flat country, closer to Cape Schanck and so on, are not as good, or as interesting.
Brilliant value golf there in the afternoons in summer. $25 after about 4pm, from memory.
Edit: $30 after 3pm, now. Good for about 27 holes in the middle of summer.

It's a safe bet the Rosebud course I last played about 35 years ago is very different to what it is now.

Hopefully you get to play some of the holes up behind the clubhouse, on the 9 that goes up the hill out the back a bit. The best holes on the two courses are there, IMO.
Pity about the gale that's blowing here today, though. That's one of the best courses on the Peninsula to play on a windy day, though, as it's no-where near as exposed as some of the others nearby.

Rosebud was a lovely course. Played on the South/West 9s.

The par 4s were quite short and for me as a player who hadn't been around there before a lot of local knowledge was required (like most courses).

Very happy to get a birdie and a few pars and walk off after finishing strongly. Favourite hole probably was the first or the 16th.

St Andrews Beach @ 28 is one of the most outrageous rankings ive ever seen. Clearly these guys have no idea what they are doing.

But really i should have stopped reading at 3 when they included Ellerston in the list...
