I watched Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll last night. A biopic about Ian Dury. He seemed like a complete prick, but he wrote some great lyrics.

Belericay Dickie - Ian Dury
had a love affair with Nina
in the back of my Cortina
a seasoned up hyena could not have been more obscener
she took me to the cleaners
and other misdemeanours
but I got right up between her
rum and her Ribena
well, you ask Joyce and Vicki
if candy-floss is sticky
I'm not a blinking thicky
I'm Billericay Dickie
and i'm doing very well
I bought a lot of brandy
when I was courting Sandy
took eight to make her randy
and all I had was shandy
another thing with Sandy
what often came in handy
was passing her a 'Mandy'
she didn't half go bandy
so you ask Joyce and Vicki
if I ever took the mickey
I'm not a flipping thicky
I'm billeicay dickie
and I'm doing very well
I'd rondez-vouez with Janet
quite near the Isle of Thanet
she looked more like a gannet
she wasn't half a prannet
her mother tried to ban it
her father helped me plan it
and when I captured Janet she bruised her pomegranet
so you ask Joyce and Vicki
if i ever shaped up tricky
I'm not a blooming thicky
I'm Billericay Dickie
and I'm doing very well
you should never hold a candle if you don't know where it's been
the jackpot is in the handle on a normal fruit machine
so you ask Joyce and Vicki
who's their brickie
I'm not a common thicky
I'm Billericay Dickie
and I'm doing very well
I know a lovely old toe-rag obliging and noblesse
kindly, charming shag from Shoeburyness

I just listened to Lee Hazlewood sing this, but pretty sure that Willie Nelson sang it too.
THE TROUBLEMAKER
WRITERS BRUCE BELLAND, DAVE SOMERVILLE

I could tell the moment that I saw him,
He was nothing but the troublemaking kind
His hair was much too long and his motley group of friends
Had nothing but rebellion on their minds.
He's rejected the establishment completely
And I know for sure He's never held a job.
He just goes from town to town
Stirring up the young folks
'Til they're nothing but a disrespectful mob.
And I know for sure He's never joined the army
And served His country like we all have done.
He'd rather wear His sandals and His flowers
While others wage the war that must be won.
They arrested Him last week and found Him guilty
Aand sentenced Him to die but that's no great loss.
Friday they will take Him to a place called Calvary
And hang that troublemaker to a cross.
MmmmmmHmm.......

The most meaningful lyric ever is that Silver Jews one. "All my favourite singers couldn't sing." I haven't even heard that much Silver Jews, but that's so truthful.

JimDocker, one of my favourite all time KK lyrics,

I ain't saying I beat the devil. But I drank his beer for nothing.

I could fill this thread with Kris Kristofferson lyrics. Rhodes Scholars should know how to put words together, but his humanity shines through in everything he writes.

Apart from jazz singers that I like who can all sing, it is fair to say that most of my favourite singers in rock, country, folk are not known for having beautiful voices.

A very good lyric.

Taylor Swift - All Too Well
You call me up again just to break me like a promise
So casually cruel in the name of being honest
I'm a crumpled up piece of paper lying here cos
I remember it all all all too well
