Ok I saw a thread like this on the Port Adelaide Board (Yes I look at it, I like to read thoughts from our Evil cross-town rivals)...and I thought it would be a good idea to have one on the Crows

I'll start... ;)

Here it is...

- Bryan Beinke's 7.1 from 8 kicks? against Melbourne in the Wizard cup. They were depleted, but it was still refreshing to see the Crows hammer them by 118 pts! (somethin like that)

- That game against Brisbane at home. Never been as nervous and excited in my life. When that siren went....the roar was simply amazing!

- Mark Ricciuto's 4th quarter performance at Skilled Stadium vs Geelong. Simply amazing....heck the whole team was brilliant. Mattner had 13 tackles that day if my memory serves me correctly

- Belting Essendon at Footy Park. The day the Crows finally were seen at as a threat, and finally earnt us the respect we deserved.

- Going to Melbourne for the Adelaide (it was our home game) vs Melbourne with my 2 best mates. Had an absolute ball, and to witness an unberlievable come back

- Watching Wayne Carey's press conference on every Adelaide Station, as he confirms he will be an Adelaide Crow in 2003.

- Absolutely bashing Fremantle to death rd 22 in the first quarter

- Seeing the progression of our next generation players such as Doughty, Bode, Stenglein, Mattner, Johnc@ck, while also seeing our older players such as Smarty and Bicks showing heart and character s they returned to peak form.

Thats it...for now. Im sure I fergot something :)

Has to be the semi final win against Melbourne for me.....we were staring at our 3 straight finals loss, playing our 3rd game in a row away from home, we were absolutely dead in the water, a touch under 5 goals down just before 3 quarter time, McLeod, our gun, off with an ankle injury, and Melbourne, with all the momentum.....I honestly thought we were gone......but to comeback and win the game, stick it up the critics and the AFL, and to be there to witness it, well, it's quite simply my most memorable moment of season 2002.

The game against Brisbane at Footy Park. The best game at Footy Park for ages. the crowd was fantastic! Loved it. I want to get it on DVD for Christmas.

Beating Carlton at Optus. Not the happiest hunting ground for us over the years so it was good to get a few kicks in while we can.

The wins against Essendon at Footy Park and thefinal against Melbourne.

Fave moment - Adelaide v Melb, Semi Final at the 'G'....most nerve racking experience but best feeling in the end....
Personally one of my best times of the year was attending my first training at Optus Oval before the Calrton game. Some of the players were quite funny ;)

Just for something different.....

Least fave moment - going all the way to Manukah Oval to see Fitzy go down with his knee. I could have cried for him and almost did!

these are the same higlights as i posted on the port board

highlight 1

Gary pointing to the scoreboard after the miracle win against Geelong

highlight 2

Gary pointing to the scoreboard after the miracle win against Melbourne

both were priceless moments considering the emotion of the wins

besides those, the other highlight for me would be attending the second showdown of the year, even though we lost, it was my first showdown and the atmosphere was great

Favourite moments...

-Watching the boys kick almost a record number of points in one quarter (12) against richmond, and somehow still winning the game....

-Flogging carlton at Optus oval. Shells mark over burton who was over stevens while ang was trying to spoil..... gold

-The brissy game - I was at my mates house who is a lions supporter.... He was getting excited near the end but luckily we hung on.....

-The Melbourne Semi - I loved and hated this game... my blood pressure was still high about 5 days later..... A good bit was when the crows were coming back in the last but melb kicked a goal to be within 2 points.... A demon supporter behind me yelled right in my ear that we sucked.... we proceeded to kick the next goal so I swung around showed him the same courtesy

PRETTY GOOD YEAR ALL ROUND CROW BOYS!!!

The home semi final against Melbourne would be the highlight for me. The way the boys came back in the third and fourth quarters was fantastic.

The game at Geelong was pretty good too, and would be second IMO

I agree with all of those, they were the best moments for me too! But also the way we showed gret heart in all games, even the games we lost, we didn't lose them by too much (barring Brisbane Final) and we were in bad positions in some games in the season and rallied home to either win or lose by a smaller margin, which I think is fantastic for the long term future of the club and setting up a never say die tradition!

Adelaide v Brisbane - great great game of footy.

Particulary when Bode made teh second effort to jump on the balll and win possession and kick it to Stevens for the goal that sealed the game.

pure inspiraiton. Will never forget that.

I think you've all covered practically everything. There have been some great highlights this year.

One more. The first time in the season when I really thought we were going to be a contender this year. We were playing Sydney in Round 3. They had just beaten Carlton by 70 points and were the media darlings. We turned on one of those first quarters that just tears the opposition apart. It was fantastic and became a trait of our season.

Unfortunately another factor showed itself. Our inability to really put the opposition away after such good starts. Something we must resolve to really be up there in 2003.

Matt's Top 5.

1. Beating Melbourne in the semi-finals - one of the most enjoyable footy trips I've had, and one of the most amazing games of football I've ever experienced. The only way it could have been improved is if I'd have won 6 prelim tickets and a Sherrin, instead of a crappy Coke jacket...

2. Beating Brisbane at Football Park - another absolutely fantastic game. To beat Brisbane was a huge achievement, and cemented our place as a serious premiership contender. One of the most awesome Football Park crowds I've ever been part of, it went OFF.

3. Beating Geelong at Kardinia Park. I was at Blues_Girl's place watching the game, and we both came extremely close to soiling ourselves in the last quarter. When the siren went I think we screamed, cried, and ran around the house like morons... then wholeheartedly applauded the reaction of Gary Ayres... absolutely sensational.

4. Wayne Carey saying: "I want to play for the Adelaide Crows next season". After all the hype and speculations for the few months before, to actually hear him say those words was HUGE... I can't wait.

5. Giving Effendon the belting they deserved. A very enjoyable day, not only the match, but incidents with their supporters before and after the match, too. It's always fun to beat Effendon, particularly when it's by 8 goals.

My moments

I just love every time I see my sweet boys playing - every time I see them it is a highlight for me. They are everything to me, but some of my favourite moments from 2002 are:

Defeating the Bulldogs in round 1, the first time we had one a Round 1 game since 1997!

The most exciting and lively game I have ever been to at AAMI Stadium v the Lions. I almost died that night from heart failure. What a feeling when the siren went - pure joy! The shed party after the game was pretty cool aswell - Mark Stevens wass interviewed!

Roos efforts in the last quarter at Skilled Stadium to topple the Cats. I left the lounge room about 20 times in the last 2 minutes of that game. I couldn't stand the pressure! Gazza's hand gestures to that old fart in the crowd was also fantastic.

Beating the Bombers at AAMI Stadium was a fantastic game.

The Semi-Final against Melbourne at the MCG. I thought we were gone. I was preparing for defeat. Then it happend - the game turned on its head. Those last 7 or 8 minutes were so scary! But the emotion when that siren went! It took 3 days for me to get my voice back!

The day Wayne Carey said he wanted to be a Crow. A very exciting day!

It has been a great year and the future is very rosey, roll on 2003!

k
xx
