I agree with you Matt Hill is the best Race Caller followed by Greg Miles.

The worst would be Darren Mcaulay and Alan Thomas they talk to much crap and never have anything interesting to say except some dribble to fill in time that nobody cares about

Alan Thomas backs a horse in the race, it doesnt win, then goes on and on about barriers make all the difference. Shut up, I couldnt give 2 hoots your a victim and cant do form.

Brain Markovic at Moonee Valley trots was a fav. Great calls of vic and hunter cups when Blossom Lady, Chokin, Golden Reign etc was racing and Vinny was driving. At the 180...............

Can anybody shed any light as to the current whereabouts of Peter Gilligan, the wildman Tasmanian caller who used to yell 'SET!' at the start of every race? I used to go the TAB just to listen to him.

Favourite

Iain Craig - Big race specialist with a particular fondness for big country races. Listening to Ian call a Doncaster or Epsom was an almost meditative experience though he seems to have utter contempt for midweek racing.

Bruce Macaveney - very underrated race caller, definitely where he did his best work.

Worst
Brian Martin - hated him and his 'tache and his .55% share in a decent horse.

Wayne Wilson - I have never forgiven Wayne for his calling of Brisbane races on Caulfield Cup day '05. I still think he was drunk that day. Called the wrong horse home in three races, all of which I was on!

The guy in South Africa - he called one of the barrier attendants a 'Keffer' one night. It was about 3am and i'd had a skinful but he definitely said it.

I can honestly say I laughed out loud when reading this. He used to call the Tassie races when we used to bet on them on a Saturday - only Sky used to cover them. Up until a couple of years ago, he was doing the Sunday twilight trots - the stand start races were where he used to say 'SET!'.

Priceless!

Got sacked by Tote Tasmania as the Launceston harness caller for some comments he made. Believe he was also a sport presenter on the local news down there, not sure if he still does that.

He was pretty crook at one stage with cancer, probably around that time.

Stu Lowe past his best, would have been a bad move putting him back as No1 trot caller
Fair enough. It's not like WA has a stack of racecalling talent waiting in the wings anyway.

Terrific tribute story on Sky's In The Gig tonight too...had a good old laugh when they played one of Hunt's previous calls of a two horse race where he pretended something was flashing home down the outside and about to challenge the leader!

Sick and tired of Terry Bailey and his potting of horses pre-race. Quite funny when he pots a horse that wins easily, he says some bu&$sh$@ excuse that he wasn't surprised it won. Had enough of him.

Dan Meilecki for me. Star

Hahaha. I've had enough of him presenting on TVN. Same with Olszanski. They are racecallers, not tipsters. I hate it when the track is wet and he does all the form, then a horse wins and he says that the breeding indicated it was going to love the ground...yet he doesnt say it pre race!

However, I dont mind Bailey as a caller, he's miles ahead of the Sport 927 bush callers like Crettenden and Markovic IMO.

Agree on Mielicki, and he never gets a photo finish wrong either. Exciting caller. Shame he doesnt do the gallops.
