Terry McAulliffe - Great voice, and normally paints a picture for you. Not calling as much these days.
Darren McAullay - Outstanding, rarely misses a beat.
Dan Milecki
Greg Miles
Lachlan McIntosh - Boring as they come but at least you know where your horse is.
Mark McNamara - Excellent, love it when I see him calling.

Worst:

Brian Markovic - Absolutely appalling. Goes through the same spiel every race
Rick McIntosh - Much the same. No good.
Ian Craig - Great voice but focuses on favourites too much and overrates how horses are travelling in the run.
Tom Shillington - Dog caller in the Horsham area. Don't even know if he's still calling but he's shocking.
Hilton Donaldson - He just doesn't seem to have a feel for a race. Bags the horses he's tipped if they struggle. Stinker.
Alan Thomas - Agree with someone above. His actual calling is fine but the crap he goes on with prior and after a race is painful.
Rob Auber - Thankfully he only fills in every now and again at the trots.

Enjoy listening to but probably aren't the best callers:

Craig Rail - Gets right into it and can make a C0 race sound like the Miracle Mile.
Jim Jacques - Ditto
Wayne Wilson

Sure I've missed a few...

Absolutely spot on hes boring as watching paint dry but if u were to listen on the radio you could almost see the race in ur head.

sorry to disagree...but im scared what will happen when john hunt and darren mcaullay retire...i hear the calling at the provincials there at both codes and they are terrible.

Both Vic & NSW have their share of average callers on the Provincials, WA is no worse than anywhere else. Both Levtzke & Bell go OK, just need more oppurtunities.

lol everyone bags the callers in the country down here and i dont reckon they are that bad...i mean crettendan paints a perfect picture when he calls hes so precise and mcintosh is an awsome jumps caller and lifts for the country cups but if i saw markovic in the street i would hit him with a trolley pole. and adam olzansksisisisi or whatever his name is...if i saw him in the street, i dont no what i would do, sounds like he has a permanent blocked nose.

He does, but for some reason Sport 927 and 2ky take the calls from Hilton Donaldson in Adelaide. I believe McAuliffe still calls for TAB Radio in QLD and SA. Someone might know?

Definitely still calls for R-TAB in Qld/SA/NT. Reckon he may get a gig calling athletics too in London with 9 securing the rights to it (he called Aths for 9 at Com Games).

It's a shame that Sky (as well as 927 & 2KY) don't take his call. So much better than Hilton it's not funny.

Whats the go in a place like Penola in SA, they have a course caller & Hilton (yuk) doing Sky. Two people doing the job that one could do. Rather McCauliffe any day.

Don't know any of their names but I do like the way the NZ callers put some excitement into their calls. Doesn't matter if its a group 1 or a maiden, they build and build to a climax as the race gets closer to the line.

Brian Markovic - I long for the days when he was the number 1 caller for the red hots, that way I WOULD NEVER LISTEN TO THIS MONKEY AGAIN! He goes off over nothing, he gets horses mixed up. I've always thought that it was a punter who like me had, had enough of his sub-par calls that ran into him that day when he almost died. Low I know, but this guy makes me sick with his calls.

I agree with these two chaps at the gallops, and I like Mielecki with the trots because he has a real passion for them.
Rob Testa gets the dog calling pretty right for mine too, while Paul Ambresoli on SKY is a good caller and a bit of a card as well!

They all paint a picture with clarity and their own bit of wit and polish!

I can be very hard on callers. I've grown up with Greg Miles. I do like Matthew Hill and can't wait until he takes over Sydney metro full time. Terry Bailey is starting to sh!t me, I think he's trying to be too fun in his calls because he gets on so well with the hosts at TVN. I'll never forget his stuff up in teh Golden Slipper "here's the winner....." it cost him the sydney job full time.

BTW, does anyone remember the female caller from a few years ago? I can't remember her name but she went alright. Better than some of the hacks they're got calling on the city tracks around the country.

Too many cliches, doesnt pause at the right time so all the words mould into a mumbo jumbo of nothing and she most certainly doesnt paint the picture of whats actually happening. Im sorry but "5 1/2, 6 or 7 lengths covering the field" is just padding and saying horse x "starting to find a bit of form here" during a race doesnt make sense to me!

I'm sorry but for someone whose been practicising for over 10 years, she's ordinary. I cringe when I hear her calling at the picnics, have to take binoculars so I can actually see where my horses are in a race.

God she is bad, my ears are hurting. It must have been those hormones when I first heard her that tricked me into thinking she was better.

he's not bad, but he's a bit repetitive in his calls. how many horses have hit the front at about the 200m with "a fuullll head of steam"? the "full" has got a good old grunt to it.

I don't mind Bailey...he's got that typical QLD caller (Pat O'Shea, Paul Dolan, David Fowler etc) ability to make a race exciting even when it actually isnt.

Feel sorry for him really, he's been sacked as the main Sydney caller when at Sky, then lost the TVN Melbourne calling gig as well with them now using Greg Miles.
