Remember when they played Sri Lanka in the 1996 semi finals at Kolkata? The Lankans made around 250 for memory, and the the Indians were getting bowled out for a low tally, somewhere around the 120s, and when they lost their 8th wicket the crows didn't like the way the game was going so they rioted :) India's hilarious when they lose.
And they got rewarded by being allowed to host the tournament only 12 years later, out of turn of course

^ yeah too soon, but not as bad as the ?9 year gap for India/Pakistan (?1987 to 1996). But India are hosting the 2023 World Cup, thereby continuing the trend of disproportionally frequent world cups in the subcontinent

NZ (especially) and Aus have been ripped off re: hosting rights of cricket tournaments

I will say one thing, Australia vs Pakistan in Adelaide should be a lot closer than what people will expect. If it was anywhere else in Australia then i'd say Australia easily.

It would have been close if Pakistan had even a half decent batting lineup. They have no chance of scoring over 200 against the Aussie quicks.

I actually think that if Sri Lanka beat South Africa, they'll go on to win the tournament.

Whilst Australia should beat Pakistan I'm glad India's not facing them. In fact I would rather play Aus than Pakistan if we make it to the semis.

.... Also a better timezone for all nations except west Indies ... Unless they think the USA is still a potential growth market.

Cricket is to slow a game for the U.S. to even contemplate imo

Anyone got the numbers on when india co-host did they travel to other countries to play like australia have done in 92 and 15. I highly doubt it

India played Bangladesh in Dhaka for the opening game of the 2011 WC and that was the only match between co-hosts except for the final.

They follow Gridiron over there which is just as slow a game as cricket, if not more slow.
However cricket is more a comparison to Baseball for their mindset so never going to happen.
Baseball is not a bad sport. If I was born in america it would probably be the only sport over there I would get into.
T20 cricket is something americans could get into a little but they are already established with what they are into.

India and NZ should make it through to the semis. Bangladesh don't really have big tournament experience and india's batting should be too strong for them. it'll probably be a closer game then people think but india should be able to account for them.

NZ vs windies: NZ at home should easily account for the windies, especially since the windies batting line up is soo bad. Reckon gayle will get out for a duck.

Aus vs paki: best chance for pakis beating aus is if they bowl first. i can't see the paki batsmen putting up a big score batting first. Mind says Australia (obviously based on form/ability) but i have a gut feeling that the pakis will win. It'll be crucial for pakistan to know as soon as possible if M.Irfaan will be fit or not for this game. he's a bowler who could get a bunch of wickets and quickly.

SL vs Saffas: honestly have no idea. IMO 50/50 game. alot will depend on how herath bowls since injuring his finger. Saffas have better bowlers although the batting of dilshan/sanga has been unbelievable. Reckon this will be the closest of all the matches. Really interested to see how saffas perform under pressure, against india they failed miserably although everyone knows they have gun bowlers/batsmen. Steyn really needs to make his mark in this match!

semis: TBH, i don't think there should be any favorites for the semis as it all pretty much depends on a bit of luck and which team can handle the pressure better. if i had to choose then it's india vs pak and nz vs saffas with the final being india vs nz. winner: india

Finals: same thing applies, handling pressure + having some luck.

Really hope no players get injured in the lead up or during the finals! The next two weeks will be a blur!

I'm still confident that we can win it. Haven't been overly impressed with any sides, I think New Zealand's batting lineup falls away a bit after Williamson and McCullum and don't rate India's bowling lineup.

The same Indian bowling lineup which has taken 60/60 wickets?

What about New Zealand? ICC favouritism to India and New Zealand!!!
That's ridiculous! NZ haven't been shown any favouritism at all. India , Australia and England are the ICC darlings in a general sense (as shown by the recent talk of the "big 3", and by fixturing - NZ don't get large series against the big 3 as often as those 3 do against each other!) but the subcontinent are favorites when it comes to World Cup hosting rights

The group stage match was played in NZ because the final and 3x quarters (v only 1 quarter in NZ) are in Australia! Australia also scored the 2 biggest neutral blockbuster$ (Pak v India, SA v India). I'm sure NZ would happily have traded some let alone all of this (especially the guarantee of hosting the final!) for the group stage match. It's been a long time since NZ played at the MCG, but that's where the final is going to be.

Unlike Aus, NZ have never hosted a world cup final , and at this rate , never will. NZ aren't even co-hosting the upcoming T20 20/20 word cup.

1. Australia
daylight
2. India
3. Sri Lanka
4. NZ
5. SA
6. Pakistan
7. WI
8. Bangladesh

Aus- Easily the strongest team, have all the bases covered and mentally strong. The only negative is the lack of a quality spinner.
Ind- In form. They generally play well in big matches. Have players like Kohli, Dhoni etc who play well under pressure.
SL- Same as India, temperamentally strong but their bowling is weaker in comparison.
NZ- Balanced side, but lack of big match experience could be an issue.
SA- Very good side on paper but the old problem of choking is still there.
Pak- Unpredictable as always but starting to find their form at the right moment. Have the quality to surprise the top teams.
WI- Not consistent enough to win 3 back to back knock out matches IMO
Ban- No chance.

Australia would get to play the final at home. That is a bigger advantage than playing the group matches at home. I am sure NZ would have preferred to host the final instead of a group match against Australia.
