It just shits me. What right does anybody have to eavesdrop on a conversation and broadcast it out to everybody, hoping for it to go viral? Not to mention taking a photo of the bloke without him knowing and posting that too.

Forget what they were talking about, we know nothing of this guy, his wife or his relationship. We're not in a position to judge.

She's just an attention seeker.

Massive breach of this guys rights.

You vet and get permission for every picture in your Facebook?? That seems like a lot of work.

You didn't answer the question.

You'd be happy for any conversation you've ever had in public to be interpreted by some eavesdropping stranger and posted on the web for millions to see? And for them to take your photo without your permission and post that with it?
I'd be annoyed about the photo. Couldn't give a shit about anything else though.

If that would be your genuine reaction to being the victim of something like this, and I sincerely doubt it would be, then you're not too fussed about your rights.

Condoning this sort of lynch mob bullshit leads us down a very slippery slope.

I couldn't give a shit if the guy is an angel or a prick, he still has rights just like me.

It's not the job of some random loser on the train to make an arbitrary judgement on the spot and impose a penalty. She has no right to do that. If she's annoyed, move bloody seats or ask them to keep it down. But she's not annoyed, she's a voyuer and an attention seeker.

FFS if she's that concerned about this woman she's never met, talk to the guy, get his name, look her up and pay her a visit. If hes the player she insists she shouldnt have any trouble getting his details. You've got no right to incite a bloody lynch mob and destroy this blokes reputation via the Internet.

They sound like much bigger try hard attention seekers than this woman. What kind of human cheats on the closest person to them then laughs at them for being "dumb" behind their back on the basis that they are unaware of the cheating.

You seem pretty concerned about a woman you've never met either based on this.

Forget the specifics of this individual case. It's not the issue. The guy may well be an absolute turd of a human.

But we're certainly not in a position to judge that, and despite what she thinks, neither is this woman.

Random people have no right to take covert photographs of somebody, and post it along with defaming statements for millions of people to see. This bloke has rights.

If you condone this, you condone absolutely any random person making an arbitrary judgement in any conversation of yours they've eavesdropped on, and taking this action.

Is this the sort of world we want to live in? Covering our mouths and whispering any time we're in public, because every random ****wit is a potential member of the thought police?

Hey BM, I can totally see where you're coming from but you're looking at the much bigger picture and we're thinking about the wives of these arseholes.

You raise great points though :thumbsu:

I don't applaud it. You raise points which I agree with, think you overreacted slightly.

Perhaps. I just think its a pretty big issue. It would have been seen by millions, now tabloid rags have picked it up and are running with it too.

Think it shows what can happen when the power of the Internet is used in certain ways. The web is still evolving and lines are being blurred, i dont think we're right across the potential consequences from a moral and even legal point of view. There's a lot of scope for people lives to be damaged or completely ruined.

It was previously only the old school media who had the power to do this kind of stuff, and as many times as they've stepped outside laws and their codes of conduct etc, the perpetrators are easier to identify. Now every person on the train can do it. Scary.

How long before some idiot decides it would be "funny" to take a photo of some random person and put it out there with a similar story?

Things like this can become trends. Particularly when you're dealing with young people who are still a little unwise and don't recognise the full consequences of their actions - of which there's a shitload on FB and twitter etc.

A middle aged woman though, FFS should know better.

There is a difference between a photo used for deliberate public shaming and posting a photo with friends or incidentally having unknown people in the background of a shot.

The first is normally reserved for the media to use on celebrity (equally as wrong in my opinion).

Why is it relevant whether he's happy? **** that guy.

I wouldn't be happy to go to jail after I'd committed a crime, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't deserve it. I'm sure this guy isn't happy that there's a photo exposing him as cheating on his wife, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve it.

This is the only issue I have with the photo. If it's true, then it's fair game AFAIC.

So I ask the same question of you:

You'd be happy for any conversation you've ever had in public to be interpreted by some eavesdropping stranger and posted on the web for millions to see? And for them to take your photo without your permission and post that with it?

Because you're happy for it to happen to this guy, so the same for you?

Bunk Moreland raises some salient points - His(?)/Her(?) initial outburst, however, was a little over the top and I think put people off-side.

I certainly have had issues with people who have put photos of me online before without any semblance of permission asked - I don't have a facebook account so there are probably more of me out there that I don't know about, but atleast they are not able to be 'tagged' to any account of mine, I guess....

I find myself ambivilant in this situation only because of what was alleged to have taken place... If the guy is bragging about cheating, he probably deserves some comeuppance, but on reflection the way this woman has gone about it isn't the most productive or pragmatic way to go about it, and if someone was 'outed' and publically embarrassed in a similar manner for something else that I wouldn't have otherwise have a problem with, I probably would have reacted similar to Bunk Moreland...

and if it turns out that this guy hasn't been cheating on his wife, well this is a shit-storm waiting to be unleashed

And also... people seem happy with how this has happened to the guy... but did the eavesdropper or anybody else actually think about his wife, the poor lady she's supposedly "helping"?

Assuming it is true... Finding out is one thing, and probably good. But to have this photo and comment plastered all over the net for the world to see? Do people think she's actually be happy with that? Everyone she knows would have seen it. As somebody who's been cheated on, I say it'd make things worse. It's be ****ing humilating.

She's just an attention seeker satisfying her own voyeristic urges, that's it.

Agree with all you have said. She should face criminal prosecution.

How many times have we all bullshit bragged to our mates to fit in or amuse them?

The fallout on this guy or this guys wife could be huge, who is some random mole to judge and share that judgement with others?

The other alarming thing is the amount of people who condone this sort of crap by spreading.

People that use facebook like this are ****ed and make me glad i never flocked to it like a sheep.

Enjoy your data mine and carry on.

For what though? What would be the difference if somebody overheard the conversation and told the wife directly?
I dont know im not a law fan.

But to publish a photo and a potentially career ending story about someone that MAY be true to a quarter of a million people should not be legal.

Its no different to tabloid trash.

Maybe it shouldnt be illegal, but people need to get their heads checked if they deem this how we want to use the internet.

If I was speaking loudly in public about what an idiot my wife was for not catching me cheating on her, then I'd deserve it

I didn't ask whether you'd deserve it, I asked whether you're ok with it happening to anyone and everyone.

And anyway, who decides if you "deserve" it? The random 16yo sitting on the train with their iPhone? Apparently they're in a position to make this judgement of you and your life?

What if his wife is a scheming, lying, manipulative piece of work who'd cheated on him in the past? Would he still deserve it in your arbitrary book?

Forget the specifics of this case. If we get into an argument over whether somebody "deserves" it, it's an absolute grey area. People will justify whatever they want in order to get likes on FB.

This is an extremely basic, extremely serious violation of somebody's rights and privacy.
