Blundstone Arena call looms

A DECISION on the Blundstone Arena redevelopment will be made at a special meeting of Clarence City Council on January 21, although the project is yet to be fully funded.
The proposed $30 million-plus redevelopment to increase the ground's capacity from 15,000 to 20,000 and improve facilities has been guaranteed $15 million from the Federal Government, but it is short at least half of the total required.
After the council knocked back initial plans for the redevelopment, revised plans were released in October.

Good crowd at the Big Bash Hurricanes v Scorchers - how did the crowd compare with North games ??
Tonight it was around the 12,500 mark, whereas the NM-GWS game was 11,127 and the NM-WCE game pulled 14,113. Not bad considering it was apparently freezing down there tonight.

Update:

Glad they are doing it, the Western/Northern portion of the ground is horrendous right now. Could do a lot more if the local residents weren't so whiny about everything, not to mention that park :/

Well their would have been no problem if they had put the ground development in a more sensible area in the first Place. Boot Park is on Bellerive beach with suburban street & houses around it. Access & parking are not ideal. If they had put a sports development at say the showgrounds in Glenorchy next to the Brooker highway, close to the mainroad with frequent busses, next to the rail for light rail transport & heaps of parking for those that drive, it would have been ideal, much easier to access & leave afterwards. But no, common sense is not common after all!

Totally agree there. Showgrounds or the Domain would have made much more sense but too late for that now.

What they need to build is a jetty on Bellerive beach, ( is 1 in Bellerive but to far to walk for elder people) a 10 minute ferry ride across from the city. Have cars parked at the regatta grounds to stop parking problems at Bellerive oval.

Yes that sounds nice but in practise its not possible to build a jetty on the beach for less than multimillions, also people arent good at drive, park, walk, ride, walk to ground, then reverse it at 10pm. Locals will always to prefer to drive & park. I'm sure if they had put the development at the showgrounds then crowds would have been better just because of the convenience aspect. Too late I know, the politicians were too stupid to figure it out & the TCA couldnt care less.
