I was pretty much crying out of anger and frustration at the final minutes of that match, I was literally seconds away from putting my fist through my brand new Bravia LCD. What made it all the more frustrating is my now fiance' just doesn't get footy and couldn't fathom my frustration. She was pretty much shrugging her shoulders about it and telling me to calm down. DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN!!!!

My wife doesn't get it either. I put my fist through my marble coffee table when Palmer broke Barlow's leg.

'You can always replace a coffee table but you can't replace an A Grade player' I said is a slightly annoyed voice.

The worst thing my wife says is "It's just a game"........ HULK SMASH!! IT'S NOT JUST A GAME!!! HULK SMASH!@

I was also at that game. The worst feeling in the world was just sitting there watching goal... after goal... after goal... It was just..... ARRGGH!!@

Still makes me angry to this day.

I was there and it was painful. Once Melbourne got on a run, you could see the chaos it was creating

The one game I use for motivation everytime we play Melbourne but I'm still scarred about it to this day.

I want to get over it but I fear that I'll be haunted by that for a long time to come

If I recall correctly at half time it seemed to be a case of how much we would win by - at that time a thought that should never have dared cross a freo supporters mind.
Ever since that game i cannot watch a Fremantle game and be comfortable, relax knowing we'll win the game easily.

At half time i actually drove to my friends house to "celebrate" the big win, at the end of the game, nothing was said, we just looked at each other, i got up and left.

Then it started and once it started there was a feeling of inevitability about it. It was like watching a disaster unfold before your eyes. Nothing could be done except witness the horror and devastation. I would have felt much worse after the game but I think my brain blanked out much of the event as can happen in times of great trauma.
Well summarised, it was kinda like if a yank was watching 911 play out in slow mo, you could see it happening, there was just no stopping it.

They deserve all this shit they get.

Ahh yes that one has a special place etched out in the memory banks.

Agree completely about the air of inevitability after half-time - an excruciating train-wreck in slow motion.

Any other side would have steadied at 3 qtr time following Pav's frustrated 70 metre goal just before the break that gave us back a (roughly) 30 point lead. But not us. When the Dees kept on coming, we just kept on crumbling.

What made it worse was all of the 3 qtr time leads we blew in the weeks before and after that game. That year we lost something like 6-8 games by around 2 goals or less after leading at the last change :(

If you watched the first half one thing was noticeable.

How fast and smart Rhys Palmer was...and in comparison how much pace he'd lost at the start of 09 and even moreso, how much he'd lost after his knee

You know what the worst thing is? This isn't even the game that I hate Melbourne the most for.

It was the game the next year when, in the middle of their massive tank, they clearly targeted our match as the last one they wanted to win for the year. They suddenly doubled - literally doubled! - their interchange rotations compared to the weeks before and after.

Total slap in the face to disrespect us by thinking they could just turn it on at will and beat us. The really sad thing of course, was they were right.

I've despised that club ever since and I've never enjoyed watching a club self destruct as much as them this season. I hope they spend an eternity broke and win-less at the bottom of the ladder.

I think every Freo supporter remembers where they were during that match. I can still picture sitting on my couch watching that in disbelief.
Sitting on the couch telling my brother "its all good.. we will eek out one of those rubbish 20pt wins we always go" then not saying a word for about 4 hours

For some reason sat through most of it again last night.. second half to me is summed up when Crowley falls for the most obvious of handball fakes by Davey and turns completely around and starts running the opposite direction, whilst that seagull coasts to 50 and slots it... comedy gold from creepy

Just turn it off at half time, problem solved :)
I remember thinking how far we had come, perhaps we could finally smash a team. Then slowly that sinking feeling set in.

The difference was in all 3 games this year. Geelong, we usually would have lost that one. Sydney, we deserved the win and kept getting closer. Brisbaine, prepared to grind a win, when in the past perhaps it would have been one of those games we would have "rolled the dice".

The game mentioned is a reminder of how bad it can be.

I haven't yet decided which team I hate the most. The Dee's for that game, or Port Adelaide and it's supporter when they kicked 10 goals straight ... most out of their arse... in round 1 2007. That game itself killed us for the year.

This is what shits me about the Pav choker tag - not only is it undeserved, it's the exact opposite of what he should be known for, which is ball-busting, tearing a hole in the sky, goals from the centre-square, Hurculean efforts ... all made to no avail but the utter ineptitude of his choking teammates.

Yup. People talk about their insane positional changes in the last match of the year, but that was just the cherry on top of weeks and weeks of tankitude, with a brief holiday at our expense in the middle.

At the time I was living next to a Port supporter and his wife (sister?). They were looking in a heap of trouble over preseason and we were up and about. At half time I saw him at the game and he said it looks like this could be Freo's year.

I reckon you are right that that game set the tone for the year for both clubs with Port playing in the GF and us , well being us.
