Very yum :)

Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Bonnie Raitt would be the only ones i could consider to be in the top echelon of all guitarists.

Some o.k. rhythm players but the above two would be better than some fairly well regarded males.
Here's someone who will join them.

Kaki King is considered one of the best guitrarist going round.

Miki Berenyi and Emma Anderson from Lush were pretty good, as was Jodi Phillis from The Clouds and Suzie Higgie from The Falling Joys.

gazelle amber valentine - jucifer. wall of amber. covers a lot of territory, have just come out of a harsh black metal phase into urdu influenced music. all this while living nomadically out of their RV.

l'autrichienne album has everything.

The Wilson sisters - Nancy and Anne Wilson from Heart. Nancy's the guitarist.

Heart are probably from before your time but worth listening into.

Ash are very much current (have been around for about 10 years). Charlotte's good.

For the 'youngens' out there, this iconic rock ballad is probably Heart's biggest hit. Nancy Wilson was the musician, played guitar, piano etc. while her sister Ann was the main vocalist and boy could she belt out a song..!

In addition, has Joan Jett got a mention yet? BTW, JJ was inspired by the first real female rock guitarist - that being Suzi Quatro...

I used to love going to see Sweet Jayne feat. Chris Bonacci they did covers of Zep, Lizzy, Tull etc as well as originals. The last song they played on stage was Zep's The Rover and her solo went on forever. Freakin epic! After Sweet Jayne she went on to play in Girls School

Nita Strauss - who just left Alice Cooper's band.

Daniela Villareal - guitarist and singer from The Warning

Mary Spender - look up Frogleap studios cover of Sultans of Swing

Wendy Melvoin - takes courage and ability to step on stage with a guitar next to Prince.

There are many vids online of people playing renditions of Comfortably Numb's guitar solo and a few are exceptional - but this is another level entirely...!!!

Her transition into the actual main solo around 3.12 is sublime...

Tash Sultana. Every time I have seen she has delivered big time. A wonderful player. She always comes across as having a terrific time and you end up feeling the same way.

Yeah Kaki King is brilliant. Won a guitarist of the year also. Highly respected . Glad someone mentioned KK .
