Pretty clear he’s been booted for the driven too far comments. How can anyone not understand why a police officer is horribly wrong to say that?

If Rowan Baxter was shot dead by his brother in law weeks ago, and the policeman floated the possibility of this being a man who was pushed too far, there might have been initial outrage at that too, before details came out about Rowan being an abusive husband.

Not implying anything about Hannah and her children, just saying people CAN be pushed to breaking point. I know someone who threatened to blow up a casino; apparently he was a problem gambler. They probably took that into account.

Don’t police just typically say they’re fully investigating?

I’m seeing it as a case where the officer needlessly speculated on one scenario and his words possibly caused hurt for her family.

Sorry but.... Spoken like a person that's never experienced the family courts.
Correct. Fortunately I haven't had any experience with the Family Court system.

I'm by no means suggesting that women aren't seen as the default caregivers for a number of other reasons, but I doubt a Judge's decision would be biased by the fact a male nutter did what he did in Qld this week.

Because the courts reflect societal values. Most people in society view women as more natural caregivers.

Not according to the Australian Institute of Criminology.
But the caregiver thing is suggested as a reason for the higher rates of neglect

Those numbers include step-parents. Step-fathers are by far the highest risk group. Children are at more risk with mothers and step-fathers than they are with fathers and step-mothers. Thats not even taking into account that most fathers who kill their kids are non-custodial.

Heard a brief report about a copper that ****ed up. Tried to find the full interview but could only find this

I believe the interview went for 13 minutes but this was the only snippet I could find which goes for 1 min 34 seconds

“Our job as investigators is to keep a completely open mind. Ah we need to look at every piece of information, um and to put it bluntly there are probably people out there in the community that are deciding which side, so to speak, to take in this investigation. Ah is this an issue of a woman suffering significant domestic violence and her and her children perishing at the hands of the husband or is this an instance of a husband being driven too far ah by issues that he has suffered by certain circumstances in to committing acts of this form”

Break

Question from reporter

“You suggested earlier you are looking at whether he’s been driven too far to have done this. What do you mean by that, is there something you have been looking at recently that’s occurred between them that may have…..

Answer

“Absolutely not. I’m not leaning towards that at all. What I was trying to illustrate by my comments were that umm you do see both in public commentary and in in general you know, general responses from the community that people will make those allegations. Um maybe they are scorned members of the community themselves that have had dealings with domestic violence in the past, and that’s the sort of thing they say in response to an incident like this. I am certainly not saying that the Queensland police service are taking any view in relation to that at all. We are not doing that, we are keeping an open mind and doing an open investigation ah which is exactly what we are to do ah we are under the direction of the state coroner to do that.”

EDIT - I found the question that was asked that led into the first response
"Is murder suicide the only line of inquiry currently?"

Yep, I have listed that previously in this thread.

Just taking the opportunity to point that out as too often those stats are used to suggest dads are more of a threat to kids than mums. The truth is that mums and the men they bring into their children's lives are responsible for most filicides, and the remainder are mostly non-custodial dads. If safety of the children is priority (and if we're going to use gender as a key factor in determining custody) then willing dads should be favored for custody over mothers.

Yes, very complicated issue, hence I brought that up quite a while ago. But it's too simple just to look at filicide. I presume that's why the AIC is looking at all categories of maltreatment. But it's not just about the kids either, women are murdered at a rate of nearly 4 to 1 by intimate partners. Ultimately, as I've said, we need to help men such as Baxter find ways other than violence to deal with their issues. Cases such as this, while horrific, do push us improve as a society, hopefully.

I listened to the first part of that interview where the copper supposedly "f'd up", and I found what he said to be perfectly reasonable and warranted. Of course, in this politically correct gynocentric nation, it's being made out like he's done something wrong and the police have come out and apologised for making comments that are regarded as "improper" because they don't align with the feminist narrative that's expected.

Yeah I'm a straight white male but the main reasons I've done well in life are because I was born into a middle class family with good parents, who encouraged education and I happened to be fairly bright as well. Plus my parents supported me through my education and I worked hard.

If i didn't have some of those economic advantages I probably don't get to go to uni, go out, get a normal job, still work hard but don't earn great money I guess. Or earn good money but risk my life in a dangerous job.

I was actually privy to a conversation between a modern feminist and the guy who owns the boxing gym I go to. i didn't catch it all but she said "you're a straight white male, you're the most priviliged person in the world", to which he replied "That's the biggest load of s**t I've ever heard."

I don't know his full life story but his family got divorced when he was young, he didn't finish school and he boxed professionally to try and earn dough, there aren't many well off people with lots of options who get into boxing. I don't blame this girl, she's been indoctrinated by the uni she went into to assume all straight white men win at life, not all of them do and it's not fair to assume everyone does.

She's lucky he didn't knock her out is my takeaway from that snippet.

A NSW mother injected urine into her immune-deficient daughter before police uncovered used syringes and urine sample jars in her handbag, a court has been told.
The 47-year-old woman - a former nurse - pleaded not guilty in Newcastle District Court to two counts of intent to injure, and one count of intent to endanger the life of her daughter between December 2013 and March 2015

That's horrible. But wtf does it have to do with this thread?
